Skolink: Thanks for the heads up. The 5 year extended warranty (available online) is a bit of a joke when all warranties are direct with TiVo/HybridTV.

Given the occasional rumours that HybridTV is going to fold, an extended warranty through a different agency might not be such a bad idea

if you bought the device from Noel Leemings and it blows up, surely under the CGA its the retailers problem to sort it out

thanks for the info, just bought one from Noel Leemings online for $205 including shipping

My Sommet freeview decoder I bought from DSE is so unreliable, its ridiculous, I will be trying to get Dick Smiths to give me a refund even though I bought it 6 months ago, will be worth a shot given its not fit for purpose, having to do a hardware reset ever fortnight, having the remote control do the opposite of the button you push etc is just a joke

cisconz: Noel Leeming do a price guarentee, you can take your reciept in within a month and get a refund of the difference in price.

Are you sure that's a month? I've found the following on NL's and B&B's website, and this "price match" must be made within seven days of the advertised price.

I hope you're right as its 10 days since I purchased ours...

BigHammer: When TiVo first launched here they were $920 and included the wifi adapter and also the home networking pack.

Currently have three TiVos here at home. Two in the lounge and the third in another room and all on the network.

Do you have any problems with the networking?

We have 3, 2 on ethernet, one on Wifi, The Wifi one while still on the network seems to dissapear from view to the other tivo's (A restart of the Tivo cures it for a few days) and one of the wired ones just comes up with a 'DNS not found error' and a re-boot of the router seems to fix that, again every few days, the 3rd one is rock solid.

RustyViewer: You know the reason the price ahs dropped is because a new model is coming out soon, presumably with more hard drive space etc. Will thse PVRs one day have triple tuners or even more?

I didn't know that, but it's not surprising.

I'm not too concerned. Firstly, the unit I got for $199 is good value. Secondly, while a third tuner and a much bigger hard drive is superficially attractive, and would be a strong selling point in Aussie, its value in NZ is marginal at best. The sad fact of the matter is that we have very few channels on Freeview, and those that there are have lamentable content. The occasions that there are two things that I want to watch on at the same time on FV are very rare - many nights there is nothing at all (which is why I keep paying for Sky). Three tuners and bags of storage is of limited use when there is so little to record. Two tuners and 320GB is probably heaps for my practical needs, esp if I ever spring for the networking package so I can move material I want to keep longer off the box.

All on a wired network here. Wireless was hopeless for streaming between units and have never used any TiVo on wireless for any more than a few hours. No problems so far!

I've got two on wifi and it works perfectly with home networking. The downloading from one to another also keeps up with streaming it. You do have to have the home networking package though don't you, to use that? I've already got it, so I don't know if it works without home networking.

+1. If it did fold and you had got less than 3-5years usage out of it, I would think that the retailer would have to refund it under the CGA, as it is originally a $800+ dollar device. The more people that get them the better I think, and at $200 there isn't anything out there that does what it does at that sort of price. Surely that price is below cost, or close to it.

Cheers for the tip off about the unit being on special.

I got the wife to pick up another unit while she was out and about this morning.  $199 is a steal.  Also, considering I was a day 1 adopter of the unit that included the WiFi adapter and the Home Networking Kit it makes that big up front cost a little more digestable.  No doubt about it that when it first came out it was very pricey.

Can anyone explain quickly what the deal is with the wireless adapter and transferring to your pc/mac?

Can you do it for any recording (or is it just SD)?
What format is the show in?

It's a wifi adaptor for your tivo for the network connection, as for the format of the recording, it's a .tivo file, I guess tivo's own format, but when you buy the home networking package the software installs all the necessary info in order to play the files on your PC (don't know about mac's), you can transfer any recording to/from your computer or tivo, i've transfered some avi and mpg files from my PC to tivo for watching no problem
