So I guess quite a few Geekzoners ended up with a Touchpad one way or another yesterday. So I thought I'd start a thread to see what people have done to theirs and if anyone has any trouble getting theirs up to speed.

The first thing I did was follow the instructions to reduce system logging from this page here.

I also followed the instructions on the above link to install Preware and installed the following patches: Hide Voicemail Button, Muffle System Logging, Remove Dropped Packet Logging, Remove Tap Ripple and Unthrottle Download Manager. Note for amateurs (like me), when you go to install Preware don't put the device into USB storage device mode, just click cancel when that option comes up. If you do the program to install Preware just hangs forever. It shouldn't take more than 1-2 mins to install.

I am probably going to look at overclocking to 1.5ghz next, so far the above mods have noticeably increased speed but from reading it seems that putting the CPU speed to 1.5ghz is a pretty good move. I don't have much experience with any other tablets but so far it seems to run at a pretty similar speed to my iphone.

My only problem so far is setting up accounts on the Facebook app. It seems as though you have to save both the user account login and password to create an account. That is pretty lapse for security if that is the only option. Am I doing something wrong?

Also I made sure I set my account as a US one. So I could get the paid for apps. I am not sure if I want to buy any at this stage though with rumours of an Android port very prevalent on other sites. I guess it could be a few months till we get one though. At this stage the only program that would be worth buying is Kalemsoft Media Player. Seems to play avi's and mkv's pretty well. $6 for the full version which also supports streaming over wifi. Yeah I'm probably being tight!

Good post, I managed to pick up a 32GB HP Touchpad from Harvey Norman in Queensland. I've already completed most of the changes you mention in your post and I agree that these are valuable improvements to make. Preware looks like a great way to access a few more applications.

I've installed Kindle as well as a few games and random apps to test out.

It will be great if the attempts to port android to the HP are successful and I'll be trying this as soon as there is a public release but until then I'll be quite happy using the HP tab for email/web/ebooks.

Great Scott!

Let us know how the battery life gets affected by the overclocking.

Yes, there is a free native kindle app developed by Amazon in the HP App Catalog.

It was the first app I downloaded

I've made an interesting observation re battery charge/drain

Connected to provided AC adapter + 1300Ma (charging)
No USB Connected (watching Govnah screen) - 616Ma
Connected to Laptop USB  (watching Govnah screen) - 200Ma
Connected to Laptop USB (screen off) + 232Ma (charging)

So based on 6300mAh battery general use should be approaching 10 hours while if you have it plugged in next to your PC with the screen on 50% of the time it should maintain battery charge.

Question for those that already have them (looks like I might have one shipping):
1. Does it work with USB keyboard (most likely I'll get bluetooth)?
2. What accessories do you recommend and what ones aren't worth getting?

I've only had mine 48 hours, but all reports I've seen say this device does not support USB Host (so no USB keyboard).

The Touchpad is very glossy front and back so is a magnet for fingerprints and scratches. I've ordered a leather case that folds into a stand for $12 delivered from eBay. I'm also looking for a nice Bluetooth keyboard.

The Touchstone dock would be a nice addition but I think I'll just save the $ and stick with the case/stand + USB cable.

I understand the Touchpad is within millimeters of the ipad dimensions wise so I wonder if there are any good ipad accessories that are compatible

What method do you use to overclock? Do you do it in preware?
