As the title suggests,
I'm after some video editing software either paid or free, so I can edit some of the videos that I took this weekend at the 4 and rotary nationals.
I have looked through google, reading reviews etc, but I thought I'd check in with the geekzone crowd before I make my choice,
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, cheers.

~Dylan

I've used Sony Vegas for paid and lesure stuff. Its considered an entry level/basic editor in the pro world as most use the likes use adobe products or the mac one (I forget what it is called)

I think you can pick it up for $150.00 too.

Sony vegas i found overally complicated when i first tried using it, i wouldn't suggest that for a true beginner.

Check out Pinnacle Studio, its as easy or as complicated as you need it to be. It also has a free 30day trial and is a lot cheaper to buy than sony vegas.

Video Pad is quiet easy to use also. There's also a free version that just limits the formats you can save to (you get to the free version by installing the program, then when you go to uninstall it, it will give you an option to switch to the free version). The paid version is about NZ$35 for the Home version and NZ$60 for the 'Master's Edition' at the moment.

Tech Support Alert, which reviews free software, gives the 'free' version as it's number one pick, but there are a couple of other options there.

I used Windows Movie Maker 2012 for editing my first ever movie clip yesterday (as part of an assignment for a course I'm doing, although now I'm not in such a rush I shall really have to learn Adobe Premiere Pro... as I have after all just started a Diploma in Digital Film!).

BTW, which software is best for you depends a LOT on which OS you're using.

If you're looking for something high end but also suitable for a beginner and very cheap I would recommend Lightworks:

It came up as something good when I was researching a NLE editor prior to starting this course, although I think now I won't spend the time learning it as it isn't used in my course so I'm better off for now focusing on what they're instructing in.
