Topic # 95816 13-Jan-2012 21:59

I'm trying to upgrade the firmware on my D5100, I follow all the instructions (format the SD card, copy the firmware file to the SD card, etc) but when I go to the firmeware menu there is no option to upgrade it just show my current firmware versions.

Anyone done this successfully?

Thanks

Are you extracting the bin file from the exe you download? The file on the SD card should be something like D5100_0101.bin

Hi,

Yes, I run the exe file, it extracts the .bin file to a new sub directory. I copy the .bin file the the root directory of the freshly camera formated SD card.

1 - I'd start by downloading the file again and getting a new bin file to try.

2- Failing that, reformat the SD card again in the camera.

3 - Failing that, reformat the SD card on a PC/Mac.

4 - Failing that, try another SD card.

5 - Repeat steps 2,3 with the different card.

Just a thought though, Nikons have two firmware versions, A and B, one generally gets updated and the other stays at the old version. You're not doing my typical trick of reading the firmware versions wrong? Seriously, I do that sort of stuff all the time until i'm told to look again...

Thanks for the replies, I have got it working. The trouble ended up being that I was using the SD card reader in my HP printer, and the printer seemed to add its own hidden files to the card. Used a friends laptop and everthing worked fine.
