As to why they would outsource to India, whilst cost is likely the primary motivator, I have worked with Indian web teams in the past, and some of them have been some of the most qualified and clever people who are hard working and honest. I am not saying this is the case here, I am just saying it's possible there is more than one reason. I agree, but I just think it would have been really smart to have it all developed by a local team. I think Trademe get great mileage in the tech community because the guys are known. I look at SNAP, who now have their entire team on their web site with photos and think "ya, that's smart, those guys get know and people feel a sense of community and it grows as a local New Zealand business". I agree with you that it's great to see someone giving this a go in the face of TradeMe delivering a 75% profit margin mainly to overseas owners. However I also think most people are being constructive, sure there's a bit of joking about and the usual mocking, but if people didn't actually give a crap then they'd just not even bother commenting and just wait until it burns it self out. At least with us all bashing at it, if they're smart, they'll listen and address our issues and make it a great competitor. D Promote New Zealand - Get yourself a .kiwi.nz domain name!!! DoggNZ: Ok, if Wheedle are watching this thread maybe we should try and be constructive? 1) The "Wheedle-Send Question" you get when someone asks a question on your auction needs to have a reference to the actual auction in the subject and a link in the body of the email (like Trade Me) 2) Blacklisting doesn't work 3) Uploading images doesn't work properly 4) It nearly let me place a bid on my own auction and then 404'd...lol Fantastic idea! So refreshing to see something constructive! This country is drowning in negativity lately. I don't think that's true for a second, but I do think that people in this community very much like to make things happen even if some days the comments don't always give that appearance. My vision of this community is that it's got a lot of people who have seen things done badly in the past, seen people loose a lot of money needlessly and know the impact that failed IT projects have on us all from a perception point of view and as such want IT to drive forward in a productive and profitable sort of way. The general tone of this launch from the public reminds me of when quickflix lauched here in NZ ... Here we have a new player who is wanting to invest and most people will moan and complain. I'm going to give them a go, warts and all. Offense can never be given, only taken ...

It does make me wonder exactly what it would take to satisfy the genral public... In NZ we complain that we have no options, that everything is a monoploy, that the ownership is all overseas... I have worked with an India developer myself, mainly because they had the skills I needed, and they were very good and professional. However I know someone who had a nervous breakdown dealing with an Indian development team, and they said the would never do it again. So I guess it is all to do with the scale of the project, and the skills required, and who you use.I get spam every day from India developers, but would never use any of those companies.

Im still part way thru getting a connection between a friends oscommerce cart and trademe, so hopefully by the time I am done wheedle have sorted out their API. IMO launching without one and a way to get all the big sellers using the listing software onboard with one click was a mistake. if they got them onboard and offered a rebate on any freight they use with mainfreight on wheedle sales they could have made a massive dent in trademe. Richard rich.ms
