Bug: Adding a note to an item in your watch list causes a 404 then the watch list causes a 404 as well.

Bug: The TradeMe listing shows a start price of $300 in the watch list while the current bid was $12.

freitasm: Here are Zillion's Dylan Bland thoughts on this launch.

Well considering Zillion failed and was as ugly as sin, and the fact he is pretty much stating the obvious, something I am sure Neil had a reasonable understanding of before he got involved the blog isn't really doing much for me. Also I have no time for Simon Barton.

BraaiGuy: Well the trademe auction now has had 561 views.
So their definitely seems to be a lot of background activity on the site.

Are they clever enough to actually count HUMANS and not bots (such as Googlebot, Bingbot and all the other bots) that must be crawling the site like crazy?

I cant see where the view counter is. Perhaps its only visible if you log in, which I still cant.

The name still annoys me...who thought of that? It's funny that a Google search shows the actual definitions directly above the site.

Can't say if its a bug or a feature but you only get to see views if (a) you are the seller (b) you add it to your watchlist then select watchlist - view counts are listed against each item listed.

DoggNZ: Ok, if Wheedle are watching this thread maybe we should try and be constructive?

1) The "Wheedle-Send Question" you get when someone asks a question on your auction needs to have a reference to the actual auction in the subject and a link in the body of the email (like Trade Me)

2) Blacklisting doesn't work

3) Uploading images doesn't work properly

4) It nearly let me place a bid on my own auction and then 404'd...lol

5) Clicking on the "watching" list of your auction does nothing. Goes to javascript:void(0);

I would have thought that the website would have had a soft launch, so all the bugs would have been ironed out before they spent money advertising it. It really needed real time users to find teh bugs. There wouldn't have been too many downsides in doing this I wouldn't have thought. Although if they did that they possibly wouldn't have got the free media attention, which is essentially free advertising for them.

I had a reply from a message I sent them via the online form last night, a bit generic but still a reply

Came from contact@wheedle.co.nz so if anyone has any issues and cant log in, just flick an email to that location
They have email delays since they sent the reply at 11:16am and I received it in gmail at 2:49pm

They should have had a 'closed beta' period for geekzone users, I'm sure a lot of the users here would have helped out and submitted bugs

Ok, overall I am quite impressed with Wheedle. A few glitches yes, and it has stopped working at least once today that I know of, and they do need to fix the non-ecrypted passwording (else they risk the LINKEDIN debacle happening to them) and yes, it is a copy of TradeMe, and yes it is rather slow .... BUT, they have got an impressive amount of indivduals listing there already.

I think they may just pick up some of the critical mass they need to make a dent in the auction market.  Which is great as I have a whole bunch of stuff to sell.

And if they can work out a method of adding TradeMe's feedback rating then they have a good chance of making this work. BTW, as an exercise for you techies out there, how would you go about incorporating TradeMe feedback ratings into Wheedle? I can think of three methods but thats not using the TradeMe API which may offer a more effective method - but then may be not.

Ive seen a lot of companies listing, not individuals.
The same as Sella.....

Sella to me became an online car sales yard and real estate site....  fingers crossed Wheedle dosent go the same way but by allowing companies to mass list straight away, I can see it happening...

I'm noticing more randoms on this site than I have ever come across on previous auction sites that have tried to take on Tradme - I think its the publicity and advertising that's done it. And the site isn't too rubbish. Damn slow tho.
