never say never, but seriously...

taking on trademe with no real competitive advantage? because yes everyone uses Sella now?

dont get me wrong i do not dislike sella, i wish everyone used it so it had enough market for things to sell. It has grown and is growing but i think it is a slow process.

I actually dislike trademe, and think some of their staff are incompetent

ZollyMonsta: "There is no need to top up your account, everything is free until November 29"

And they show clip art of a pile of pancakes. With "relax, have a cake"

A custard pie might be appropriate there.

Zillion was the closest competitor to trademe. From memory I think sella brought it and the guys who ran zillion setup mighty ape instead which seems to be doing quite well. I think zillion was quite a good brand for a trading site and it had it's own community. Wheedle doesnt' seem to have any message board or community, so I can't see it being a website that people will use apart form listing items for free.

Awesome

Wasn't Zillion set up by the same crew who set up GP Forums?

I always thought it was mighty ape. Although if you look at mightapes footer it says 'Visit our friends at nzflatmates and Gameplanet' so there is possibily some connction.

Yeah I think mighty ape is the gameplanet guy -- a guy called Simon (egor?) if I recall correctly. He setup gameplanet/cstrike.co.nz back in the day (I'm sure there were/are others as well, but I think it was his baby).

Not sure if he did zillion as well.. wouldn't be surprised but I was never aware of him being involved.

No idea what that site is but I remember watching the interview  a couple years ago.

So it's now 1:25am on launch day and the site is again "Down for maintenance".

I wonder if it will be a common occurrence. A bummer for people with auctions about to close.

Mighty Ape's former name is Gameplanet Store... that should be a clue Wink.  In fact, www.gpstore.co.nz still resolves to Mighty Ape.

Site doesn't look so good on iPad safari. Images don't scale to fit page, text is misaligned in search fields, and there's some mysterious Flash content that I can't see.

Liking Wheedle so far, all signed up, no issues whatsoever and already have stuff listed.
I am over TM and their ways.

The site does seem to be going a lot faster than it was last night.

I'm just reading the teams & conditions of the section that might interest me. Note the similarities, some parts are almost a copy & paste. Both don't impress me much & will continue to use specialist firearms auction site gunstuff.co.nz

Wheedle
Selling firearms and ammunition on the site is within the provisions of the Arms Act 1983. It is an offence to sell by mail order, a firearm or any ammunition for a firearm, unless you have a written order signed by the purchaser or a bearing endorsement signed by a member of the NZ Police stating that the NZ Police have inspected the buyers firearms license and is a fit and proper person to purchase that firearm or ammunition. Sellers must sight the firearms license of the Buyer, or for remote sales must receive written confirmation signed by the NZ Police confirming the Buyer holds a valid firearm's license. You can only advertise "A" category firearms, in sporting configuration, as defined by the Arms Act 1983. You cannot sell firearms that require additional license endorsements to purchase or large capacity magazines. You may only sell firearms that are currently in New Zealand. Overseas members are not permitted to buy or sell firearms on the site. Please note: Our policy is one (1) firearm per advertisement.

TradeMe
The sale of firearms and ammunition remotely on Trade Me is within the provisions of section 43A of the Arms Act 1983. It is an offence to sell by mail order a firearm or any ammunition for a firearm otherwise than pursuant to a written order signed by the purchaser and bearing an endorsement signed by a member of the Police stating that the member of Police has inspected the purchaser's firearms licence and is satisfied that the purchaser is a fit and proper person to purchase that firearm or ammunition. Sellers must sight the firearms licence of the buyer, or for remote sales must receive written confirmation signed by Police confirming the buyer holds a valid firearm's licence. Forms are available at any police station.

You may only list "A" category firearms, in sporting configuration, as defined by the Arms Act 1983. You may not sell firearms that require additional license endorsements to purchase or large capacity magazines.

You may only sell firearms that are already in New Zealand. Overseas members may not buy or sell firearms on the site. Only one firearm may be advertised per listing.
