I just got an email from them to say they are starting an advertising campaign next week aling with new features. The problem is that they don't have an unsubscribe link in the email. I thought they had to have those these days.

Unless you have agreed to receive the messages when you joined, in which case they only need stop sending you messages when you terminate the business relationship with them. Richard rich.ms

Today I've received the second email from them asking to subscribe - so I clicked the UNSUBSCRIBE link to have my email removed from the mailing list. Instead of an automatic unsubscribe link, it's actually an email with "unsubscribe" in the subject. Poor. First the email I use to send/receive by default is not the same as the one I used for the service. So it won't work without my having to login to another email system, etc, etc. So went to the site itself. No option in the profile page to turn off emails. Also the password field can't be changed. Instead there's a message "Leave these fields blank if you don't want to change your password" with no fields at all. I wonder if it will survive. Cant stand sites that require you to know what address you used to subscribe to be able to unsubscribe. I thought that a working unsubscribe link was a requirement in the silly antispam law? Richard rich.ms

I previously sent an unsubscribe request to them by return email, when they last emailed me, and I also got this one today. So their unsubscription system can't be working. I don't think it has to be an automated system, but I beleive if it isn't, it has to be staffed and people have to be able to unsubscribe if they request it.

Oh boy, I decided to have another look at ListSellTrade today for the heck of it. They are now running a "competition" to win 1 million dollars with a * indicating there are terms and conditions. The terms and conditions reveal that the prize will given to a random paid subscriber with a current listing, as soon as they reach 500 THOUSAND paid subscribers. Note that being a paid subscriber means paying them $10 a month. So when they are pulling in $5 million a month, they will give a one-time million bucks away to a subscriber. This seems absolutely likely to happen before the natural death from old age of said subscriber, or at least said subscriber's grandchildren. Im sure this will appeal to the car / house / boat traders and those who can do the math and see that $10 per month is better than selling fees espcially when they are high volume and/or high value traders.

Not how I read it. They make the draw, from the current paid subscribers when they have had 500 thousand people pay (and have something listed) for 3 consecutive months or more, each. Lotteries: A lottery is gambling that involves a random draw that takes place after all participants have entered. Raffles and sweepstakes are common types of lotteries. Prize competitions: Unlike a lottery, a prize competition is gambling that requires participants to exercise some knowledge or skill. ------- I think it fits the definition of Lottery better than Competition. Roughly one in 500,000 chance of winning a million... the odds are just as good as lotto! Edit: read the T&C again !

Regardless, doing the prize draw when they have 500,000 paid subscribers with listings. Yeah, wait for three generations from now for this to happen. They should set a more realistic target - 10,000 paid members, or 25,000 paid members. Half a million members? It ain't gonna happen any time soon.
