In relation to the fibre rollout, what does "DMR route" signify? e.g. http://www.chorus.co.nz/file/345/northland_schools.pdf

DMR = digital microwave radio.
What that means is there is probably a wireless link somewhere along the way to this school.
Wireless shouldn't be confused with wifi or other such low cost wireless options.
DMR usually means it's specifically designed for high reliability in an outdoor environment.
Being a Chorus solution I'd guess that it's in licensed spectrum.

DMR = Digital Microwave Radio

There are some rural schools that present quite challenging access issues.

For these sites we have committed to build an Ethernet Radio link which will deliver a 100Mbit/sec service to the school (i.e. same service options as fibre connected school).

The improvements in radio technology over the past few years makes providing 100Mb/s service a viable option for approx forty-eight schools nationwide.

Together we're building New Zealand's fibre future

Thanks for the replies, I was assuming it would be something like that but couldn't find any documentation on it. Does Year 4 of the rollout start in July 2014?
