I saw this earlier today in Te Rapa (Hamilton) by the New World, Fibre was put in this area a few months back so I assume this is one of the cabinets they will blow the fibre cable to you from?

It could be. Hamilton isn't chorus, so not sure what their equipment looks like.

The Chorus cabinets are bigger than in your photo. Similar rectangular shape as the Whisper cabinets, but not as high, not as wide, and with a rounded side. I must remember to get a photo.

I noticed a Chorus guy had set up shop in front of one in Avondale, Auckland with a shade tent, and went and talked to him.
The cabinet seemed to have big draws and he was busy splicing lots of fibre. I didn't notice any active components in the cabinet, from what I could see it was just a place to loop all the ends of the fibre runs in one place together.

He claimed that there was new fibre between the fibre cabinet and the exchange (a long way) despite the cabinet being right next to a Whisper cabinet. I wonder why they didn't just get fibre from that instead? Maybe they're making provision for removing the Whisper cabinets in the very distant future?

He also claimed that fibre had also been distributed from the fibre cabinet to the manholes down the street & to outside every building on the road. So all that remained to do was to get fibre from inside a building to the boundary where it is waiting to be connected!

The chorus ADSL cabinets only have a very few fibres, but they may have space in the ducts to pull high-count cables through for the fibre service, hence placement of the new cabinet next to a wisper cabinet.

Qualified in business, certified in fibre, stuck in copper, have to keep going  ^_^

Anyone know what the timeframe from installation to being used is? They're installing fibre and cabinets in our street at the moment, but the Chorus website says it's scheduled for May. I'm hoping we can get some sweet fibre action soon.

Last I've heard is there will probably be ISP's reselling UFB plans from around mid year at the earliest, with this possibility that this could end up being later than this.

Wow, that seems pretty quick if it does end up being rolled out this year.
Wonder what the prices will be like...

^^ Thats the stuff. Chorus/Transfield next door to our new location here in CHC. Theres drums of the stuff outside, and heaps of offcuts in the scrap bin.

As said, multi core stuff with about 20 or so sleeves that can have a few fibres blown down each.

Its called FibreFlow

Yes, that's an Ultrafast Fibre cabinet. There are dozens around Hamilton now.
Premium business services will be available in Hamilton and Tauranga from April and all other services from July.
Not long to wait.
