Looks like Lightwire (Hamilton) has posted up their UFB plans: $99/$129/$149 for 30/10mbit for 200GB/200-400GB/400-600GB data "averages" per month. Apparently they'll do 100mbit on a case by case basis. http://www.lightwire.co.nz/ufb/newsletters/201208-lightwire-home-fibre.html

they really need an entry level plan at $75, even if it is with a small data cap and what on earth does 'average' usage mean?

That $99 looks like it comes with VOIP/etc as well. Not sure why you'd bother with a crappy datacap at $75 for only 30mbit/10..

Agreed that they need an entry level product as the $99 puts me off when I compare it to my current plan which has 20GB of data and I rarely fill that. Also I don't want a managed wireless and voice router let alone pay for it. I'll continue to wait even though my street has been fibred for months and I am itching to sign up.

Their pricing seems very fair, and the caps seem extremely reasonable.

It's no different. a) most people don't ever use their cap, even at 30GB. there are hundreds of thousands of broadband connections in NZ that use less then 10GB b) ISPs offer throttling, so your speed is reduced but you get price certainty if you hit your cap. Even if you are paying overage it's typically only $2/GB. If your average month is 10GB on a 30GB plan then even if you have a crazy month where you quadruple your average to 40GB it's still only $20 more

All i'm hearing is whining. If you want a $75 UFB plan, go use one of the other ISPs offering it at that price. Lightwire isn't offering normal plans like the other ISPs so far.

Lightwire isn't offering normal plans like the other ISPs so far. who is whining? I'm not asking them to launch one, or complaining that they haven't. I'm simply saying they are making a mistake by not offering one. If they want to massively limit their market by starting at $99 for ~200GB then that is up to them, but they won't get many customers unfortunately.

I think that its not too bad allowance wise but I would have preferred with a 100mbps connection. As even today we can have a cheaper connection using VDSL2 that will be pretty much 30/10 or even faster (with a lower data cap I admit)...

We get alot of calls about our 50mbit plans when clients on 802.11g can only get 10-20mbit, It DOES matter All comment's I make are my own personal opinion and do not in any way, shape or form reflect the views of current or former employers unless specifically stated

Apparently they do not offer 100Mbps for residential customers by default on their plans, I don't know exactly why (I mean they could have a good visual explanation that with 100mbps is really within NZ and connected directly via a cable to the router), but people can still enquire and get a 100Mbps connection if they really want.

Speed issues are part of being an ISP. Are you saying Ubergroup wouldn't offer 100Mbit for that reason? It might be a contributing factor but I seriously doubt it's the reason. Unless they chose to comment I doubt we will know for sure. I would suggest greater reason would be lack of uptake, or lack of need.
