Found out ufb was finally available when I typed my address into snaps website, also tried orcon but got "It looks like fibre will be available in December, 2012" so I rang them and told them about snaps website saying ufb avail at my address, they took my details and said someone would call me back. Its been several days now and no call back from orcon.  Also tried kci/planet and they confirmed it was available, they were also very helpful in answering my questions.  So have signed up with kci/planet instead on their 10/30 unlimited plan w static ip, install scheduled for 21st Nov.  kci/planet also said I can use my own router with pppoe auth.

Well the two guys from Chorus turned up around 8.30am yesterday (21st Nov), started digging up the ground next to our letterbox where the existing round telephone junction box sticks out of ground whatever its called, our neighbours line is also apparently connected there aswell.  They located the end of new fiber duct from the road and also the end of our existing copper duct.  They then went to the junction box mounted on the side of our house and located the other end of existing copper duct, they attempted to push the fiber duct through the existing copper duct and ended up running into blockages down near the letter box and also up near the house which was due to tree roots.  This is where two other guys from Chorus turned up.  They ended up digging another hole near the letter box and located the blockage there, as it turns out the existing copper duct was broken in two there and had a block of wood placed over it.  Up near the house they ended up digging another hole next to the tree and bypassed the duct going under the tree.  They ended up pulling existing copper out aswell while they got the fiber duct through the existing copper duct, they then used a long fiberglass rod to pull the copper back through again.  After that it was very much straight forward to connect up the ends of new fiber duct and fill in holes.  They ended up running out of time that day due to the problems, so have rescheduled for the 27th Nov to install the internal fiber and ONT.  The guys from Chorus also said I was the first in Henderson to get connected, hence the new fiber cabinet hadn't been made live yet due to no customers.

Im being connected with Planet/KCI, I also asked the guys from Chorus about the vlan tagging thats aparently required, they said its not a requirement and its only Orcon doing it on their connections.  Planet/KCI said I would need to use pppoe, they could supply me with a router or I could use my own.  I opted to use my own, I already have a tplink TL-WR1043ND im going to use.

I "ended up" reading five "ended up" phrases! :P

So you say you're in Henderson, then Massey shouldn't be far away then?
