In another 2 months I will be free from my current contract and I am very keen with port my number to skinny - I have been using a skinny SIM in my backup phone and it has never failed me. The only thing holding me back is the ASB netcode problem, I am aware that it has not been solved since the network was launched back in.....quite a long time. Any ETA on getting it sorted?

Hi

Being Geekzone here is the techy answer Laughing There are around 30 ASP's who offer short code services and we have been working with them individually to get them to connect to Skinny.

We have a number of these going and worked through the list using Pareto's principle - we got 80% of the most commonly used codes working by hooking up the 20% of ASP's that provide them.

We are currently working with the ASP that ASB use and have the VPN connected for them.  We now need them to configure their app servers to start sending traffic through SMPP to Skinny.  Although we are working closely with them it is out of our direct control on the timing, but I hope that it will be going before your contract expires.  Don't sign another one!!  Mrs LivingSkinny is also very keen to get this working so I am under pressure to get it fixed.

cheers

Paul.

As a work around, you can get a physical (RSA) Netcode Token from ASB for $1 a month.  Instead of using Netcode over SMS instead.

Also you can just call the ASB - from their website (https://www.asb.co.nz/story993.aspx#netcode): -

What if I don’t receive my Netcode?
If you need to make a payment and you don’t have either of these with you, just call our contact centre on 0800 FASTNET (0800 327 863) and we'll identify you over the phone before releasing the online payment.

My wife is fed up. she wants to use the new ASB android app and because she is on skinny she can't be authenticated. Looks like a move to Telecom or elsewhere as this has gone on too long.

From a teleco perspective all the banks should have been working before launch.

I know 2degree had the same issues, but by now the banks and telecos should know better

Been there done that.  Not a good way of doing it .  Takes about 10 minutes plus..

I agree - it is pretty substandard to have these things not functioning on release date but to have them drag on for such a long time is just laughable. It isn't like ASB is some random little player in the market :|

Sounds like a failure with the "ASP" (I'm not sure what this is). Isn't it their job to be working with all the carriers? Maybe ASB should shift.

To be honest I've been a long time ASB customer but shifting to the BNZ. ASB have done nothing in the alst few years and this kind of carry on seems to be testament to that.

Zeon:  "ASP" (I'm not sure what this is).

ASP - Application Service Provider.  A 3rd party company that provides the short code services. We interact with the ASP's rather than every bank, radio station etc.

same issue at first with compass mobile, turned out, the mobile carrier compass wholesaled from, did not tell asb what number ranges they had issued, once datacom had updated their (asb) sms gateway, with the 0280 prefix and associate it with correct carrier all was well, asb staff had no clue however :(
