With a Skinny SIM, the APN settings may become visible. The iPhone only cares about the MCC/MNC to use a profile and the Telecom XT Profile has the same MCC/MNC and the APN Settings are hidden with the 530/05 MCC/MNC profile . This is a limitation of how Apple does its Profiles. We may see an update from Apple in the near future so APN Editing is allowed (maybe) if Telecom ask them to do that.

I have no idea what you just said so I'll just smile and nod :) kobiak: a bit disappointed, because of 10mb of DATA on weekly combos :( expected at least 30-50mb :( It actually says "10 per MB", which could be an erroneous "per", or could actually be "10c per MB".

billgates: The free SIM giveaway on Skinny's website I have been told is not working. So give them a call instead on 0800 475 4669 and they will send one out if you provide your details over the phone. Number porting also has not been setup. They expect to have that functionality up and running with in a week's time. DSE and Warehouse Stationary are selling the SIM's for $10. Hi We have been running a pilot with Skinny for a couple of months now and today are extending that into a Beta launch with WHS and DSE. More to come over time, for example our full function website is not yet available. The guys are checking the forms on the website now. In the meantime our Skinny Reps can help on 0800 4Skinny (475 4669). To get a free SIM you can call us and we'll take your details and get a SIM in the post to you. You can port your number - just call us. DSE and WHS are selling Micro SIMS and Devices which include a SIM. Merchandising in stores is happening over the next couple of weeks so won't be available in all stores from day 1. Cheers Paul

Beholder: I have no idea what you just said so I'll just smile and nod :) The MCC = the Country Code of the SIM.. the MNC = the Carrier Code for the SIM. Each Carrier in a certain country is given an MNC and they use the MCC of the country they are in and its programmed into the Sim (with lots of other information) The way the iPhone is set up is it has a list of MCC/MNC built in and if they match the Simcard which is placed in the phone it which use those settings. This means MNVO's (Virtual Carriers) for example Orcon are identified as Vodafone SIMS thus the iPhone will put the Vodafone settings in my default on the iPhone (you can then go an edit the settings as its enabled by hand to put the correct settings for the MNVO) When you put a Skinny Card in an iPhone it will identify itself as an XT and put the XT Settings in BUT you cannot edit (by hand) the APN Settings with the Built in XT iPhone Settings (as this is how Telecom have asked Apple to do)

Its good but im not exactly blown away Wheres the induced benefit for handset costs of the handset locking? SE Xperia Active @XT: $399, @Skinny: $389 $32 a month for 10 mins, 750 texts, 130 MB each week (40 mins, 3000 texts, 520 MB a month) Ranting to myself here... Can we add extra data to the TalkTextData XT plans? If so thats... $38 a month for 20 mins, 1000 texts, 500 MB data Or with Vodafone we can get... $35 a month for 50 mins, 2500 texts, 150 MB data On further inspection good job Skinny! I notice people here are saying the Free Sims can't be ordered online at the moment? Does that mean if it's let me enter my details it actually won't be coming though? Or was it fixed as of about 11ish am....

I note the casual voice rate with Skinny is 39 cents per minute and with 2 degrees 44 cents per minute (22cpm for calling another 2d mobile and a landline up to one month after a $20 top up) so unless you wish to purchase a $4 per week combo on Skinny in my opinion it is not economically viable especially as you have to buy another phone.

Just got a message back from Skinny.. "Please find bellow the Skinny APN settings as described on our website. You won't be able to use Skinny MMS at the moment but you'll be able to find the MMS settings on our website very soon."

(Its already been added to my website) Something I laughed at was: "That means that all handsets from Telecom XT will work, and some others. With another networks sim (I brought my iPhone 4S from XT, its on 2Deg now) you go to settings, General, Network, Mobile Data Network, and enter settings there. It wont let you do it manually if you're with the network you brought it from because it has settings built in I assume. I couldn't do it when I was on XT. But then again, I had no need to. kobiak: heavenlywild: 10mb is just embarrassing in 2012. What can you really do on a smartphone with 10MB? Not much, unless you plan to turn everything off. +1 clearly not a smartphone welcome network :) Having a base plan based on Data is a waste for those that dont want data

billgates: Great pricing. $4/week for 120MB data! $16/month for 480MB. Great? for $3 more i can get more than twice that data on 2Degrees! Its just like telecom. Mind you it is stll using their network so one can't expect too much.

Big 1up to Skinny. Their CSR's are amazing. So youthful and happy. Really sound like they genuinely want to assist us. My friend called and got his free sim also, said exactly the same thing about his CSR. Deficiently makes a big difference since they're basically representatives of your company.
