P1n3apqlExpr3ss: Its good but im not exactly blown away

Wheres the induced benefit for handset costs of the handset locking?
SE Xperia Active @XT: $399, @Skinny: $389

the faq implies that only some hand sets are locked.

"If you want to leave Skinny (boo), you might need to unlock your phone. "

can't find info that says which handsets arelocked and which aren't, but maybe only the really cheap ones are, like the Huawei one that is only $59. I could be wrong, but that is the cheapest 3G phone I have seen in NZ

It could be meaning that if you brought your phone from another network, you wouldn't need to unlock it if you were leaving. But if you were leaving and you brought your phone from Skinny, you would. So the generalisation is that you might have to, depending on where you got it from.

sbiddle: Those who have issues with their perceived pricing value need to take a look at the target market of the product. Skinny isn't aimed at everybody, it's a niche product aimed at a young target market.

So much this. The commentary on Twitter today about Skinny is hilarious.

Not here.

Nokia C2-01.  on Vodafone (unlocked), $119
On Skinny,locked (maybe), $109.

xperia play looks to be about $10 cheaper than Telecom sell it for too

Of course, we don't know which handsets are actually locked yet. Might only be some, like the mega cheapo Huawei.  That is the cheapest 3G phone I have seen from a NZ carrier.

I do think Skinny will have to have a good hard look at their casual per minute voice rate if their masters (Telecom) wish to claw back customers from 2 degrees.

How come?  It's cheaper than 2Degrees.  But I suspect they are more interested in wining back customers from Vodafone than from 2Degrees.

You mean the 39c/min casual rate that is cheaper than 2 degrees by 5c/min?

Why would anybody pay the 39c per minute casual rate when you (in effect) get 10c per minute calling on a $4 bundle? That's NZ's cheapest publically available mobile calling rate.

Perhaps you should also check out the warehouse website and compare.

5c is really not much
but the fact is that they set txt cost to 9c
so it looks like they are trying to win customers back from 2degrees despite the different target market

I've asked for one already. Have to wait and see when it gets here.

Then I can let people know how easy to get the Skinny Details (2 ways I know of without jailbreaking) into the iPhone and if their "short codes" work properly on the iPhones.
