bfginger: F&P has issued a recall notice for some dishwashers made between 2000 and 2008

Thanks for that. My brothers dishwasher looks to be on that list and had a faulty latch. Needless to say he has gone of F&P stuff.

solitaire: I used to be a die hard F&P fan, got one roughly 4 years ago and have been ripping it apart and fixing it since, first time i did i was pretty annoyed to see haier parts inside.

The engine start capacitor died, replaced that, then an electrical issue occured which kept melting the door latch switch (was not related to the leaky door latch issue which was recalled).

Never again - bought a bosch recently and its fantastic, well worth the extra cash, damn quiet too.

F&P Washing machine - Yes
F&P Dishwasher - Run to the hills!

Don't Haier now own a lot of F&P?

Have Parmco one for around 5 years. So far so good

I guess mostly dishwashers, washing machine, heatpump just buy once so have to choose wisely. Unless you want to change it all the time or "touch wood" suddenly broke down :(.

Like, Niel, says, it is pointless comparing today's models with those of yesteryear.

BUT, in saying that, our AEG bought from The Warehouse in Dec 1997 has had zero faults so far! No problems with plastic bits, pumps, electrics etc. It is very quiet, too.

Guess I have put the hex on it. Hope it doesn't look at GZ.

But I won't begrudge it a good retirement if it packs up soon. It has been a real trooper.

I previously had F&P dish drawers and probably spent close to $1k in servicing them over a 10 year lifespan.

I got a Bosch SMU68M05AU a couple of weeks ago for $1550 (it was on special at betta electrical for $1600.. I got an extra $50 off). It is good to have clean dishes again, but I do miss the convenience of the upper dish drawer on the F&P - it was a lot easier to pack without bending down and a better size for putting on daily.

But I couldn't bring myself to get replacement dish drawers due to the thought of having them break down again... and I got the bosch at a decent price. I suspect the bosch will last better, if only because I will take a lot better care of it compared to the F&P.

[edit - might have exaggerated the cost I spent in servicing. I can only find proof of spending $470 total but I think I might be missing one. At any rate if I had them again I would take much better care of them. I also forgot to mention the bottom drawer was not working at all]

Second vote for Miele..

Also avoid Whirlpool, my parents had nothing but problems with their Whirlpool appliances (which they paid a premium for believing they were "high end")

$60 F&P dishwasher of Trademe did the trick for me. Has worked well for the year and a half I've had it so far. When kitchen is remodelled will probably go with a dish drawer
