The old mailbox was screwed to the fence, and sat in a hole that would be no more than 10cm deep. In fact, its probably stretching things to call it a hole at all.


Bugger :-( Took me *ages* to dig the hole for our new one.

<gulp> Didn't take me much time at all. Hope thats not a bad sign. And following the directions of the quick dry cement, I poured in the required amount of water. But only 1/2 the amount of concrete mix fit in the hole. Hope its strong enough. :-\

OTOH, the neighbourhood still seems to have full power, telephone, water and gas services. Thats got to be a good thing, right?

We had a new house built last year in Auckland. No yellow tape for services. The trench is at least 600mm deep and this was for a blue water pipe, orange power pipe, and while phone pipe. It was covered in fine brown gravel so if you dig and find gravel you know you are near a trench.

Our council has maps for where services run. Not very accurate location, but the depth is accurate. It just does not show private pipes.

Decal: Pipes have to be a min of 400mm deep and cables 600mm. So you should be right


Electrical cables have to be a minimum of 600mm. Phone cables are often buried at 300mm, water mains are often around this depth too.

Doesn't matter how strong it is.....as long as its too heavy to run off down the road with ;-)
