Hi all,

Just wondering if any one else has been rejected a Flip Internet service in NZ due to having a Red Cross alarm fitted in the house with a splitter installed.?

Not quite sure of the reasoning behind it but would be interested to know. Am waiting to hear from the person that applied but at this stage looks like it will now not go ahead for that reason.

This would be the case if they were using naked dsl with a VoIP client for voice, but they have stated they are using pstn, so there shouldn't be any reason why this happens as far as I can tell

As I understand it, Flip is using the same unbundled exchanges (and the same gear) as Slingshot do for their "better network" plans. As the "better network" phone plan is a VoIP service terminated at the exchange (and delivered as a regular phone service to the customer), I'd assume this is also the case for Flip.

Is it a 'Better Network' if not compatible with red cross. The OP should contatc their alarm provider for a solution.

Contact Red Cross and ask for a solution. I would never dream of relying on a medical alarm (or any alarm for that matter) running across a VoIP connection whether it be a PSTN simulation or PSTN emulation. Even with 99% reliability it's still not good enough.

Thanks team ...found this on Flip about alarms

I believe she is looking elsewhere now .... Pity I think it suited her needs being cheaper end of the market and on a pension.

according to this thread it is definitely pstn, not VoIP.
