everybodylovesfebs: ohh, i was using the standard network voda4ne software, is v20 way better? also what do u guys think about the n96? how long do you think does it take for voda4ne nz to get them any idea? is it gonna be way better than the 8gb version?

N96 is like a N82 but looks like an N81

I dont think anyone here can tell you when it'll be release in nz

Even N82 isnt release in NZ and i wanted to buy a battery for it.Looks like I'll pay my dad to send one across

Hmm.The only difference I see is the two led light and more memory than the n95 8gb.Everything else looks the same
nokia N96 has different specs than the N82. One supports umts900 and the other does not.

Also DVB-H is included on the handset, not that NZ has a DVB-H network. although I understand Kordia has been doing some testing on this platform.

Well they are similar. The only difference is .Two led light.More internal memory, and has hspda 900.It has a built in tv tuner but can you use it in NZ?

I will rather wait and see what other new models after this one.Just Not worth the money

I changed my N73 to a n82 because there were substantial difference.
More color display,better camera quality,real flash,wireless,faster Os,

Why would I change a handset for the sake of HSPDA when UMTS does a find job for now and its not like all the places support 3G/3.5G.
Is it really necessary?

i agree with ninjabear. the new features do not justify an upgrade. i'm still on an N95 classic because i couldn't find justification for the upgrade to an N95-8GB. plus the lack of a lense protector is just plain bonkers in my books.

I have an N95 8GB now, replacement as my other one was stolen. Quite happy with it, but only got it as its a temporary handset (Black N82 or Samsung G810 any week now!) and has a higher resale value. Love the additional RAM though, will be able to play Quake II on it with the Open GL version - wahoo! Already on the V20 firmware (good bye Vodafone V11 firmware), and now hacked the handset for full system access - oh yeah!

N96 is scheduled for 3rd Quarter Release, your guess is as good as mine for NZ release date (Mid-2009 probably, since N82 came out last November but still no sign of it here). Why wait for Vodafone to release it though? Just get it PI towards the end of the year... Its not really much of an upgrade though, I'd pass and wait for next years flagship (or get the Samsung G810).

When i had my nokia 3650 with symbian i downloaded a neat little program that if u installed it and the phone was stolen you could send a txt with a certain command and it would lock up and make an annoying siren noise.

Also, as most thieves will prolly think to do, upon changing to a new sim card it would txt the phone number of the
new sim to the number you had set after install.

I dont believe many thieves are also geeks and would know how to disable this so if its available for the new versions of symbian and newer phones it might help out with future incidents like this or atleast be a cool feature to brag to mates about.

Sorry for the life of me i cant remember the name of the program but im sure itl be in some symbian forum
(id find it myself except im stuck on telecom until i win lotto)

this sounds like a great program! anyone know a name and whether it's avaliable for the newer symbian phones?
txting the new number of the new sim card would probably mean police can track who brought the number and hopefully make an arrest.

Just a quick update regarding new Nokia handsets - just saw elsewhere that there will be a couple of major handset announcements sometime 2-3rd quarter this year (currently Nokia have only referenced them with their code-names).

Will be interesting to see what they are, I would imagine that a proper N-Series flagship will be announced (or possibly an E-Series flagship successor to the E90), and wouldn't be surprised if they announce the flagship touch device either (since the Tube is confirmed to NOT be the flagship in that series).

At the VF conference I chatted with a Nokia sales guy who told me of a new device coming out with 16GB onboard and (I think) about 20 in the box via somesort of SD card setup. He didn't give me any names for it, or have it as a demo ... but said it should be in NZ Q3 or Q4. It'll be a N series device though.
