Hey guys,

eSquare has a fairly good price of the N97 - $1389 and no surcharge with credit card. Has anyone bought from eSquare.co.nz before? They have two stores in Auckland.

Not yet, Infotech just rang me about 1 hour ago and said white is not available till end of week, so would you like black.

So they are sending a black one tonight and told me i would receive it tomorrow. -Same time you get yours aye?

I see the pricing has dropped even more, i bought mine on wednesday @ $1406, in the weekend it droped to $1395 and now its even lower... I wonder when vodafone release it, will it be @ $1100? Hope not.

Nokia's premium phones prices drop like anything. I remember N95 introductory price was $1500 and month and half later it was $999.

The $1500 price tag was totally over-priced because there was so much demand for it.

Yup, recieved mine...still working it all out.

I may not notice the slow speeds with browsing and menus, due to this being my first smartphone...but I do notice a few bugs here and there, but I'm not too woried, they will get ironed out with time and firmware updates....1 which is just being released as we speak, read about it yesterday...not sure wha it fixes though...

Hmmm...well the radio works....but not impressive....

The headphones are cheap as chips, really really cheap.
And connecting the headphones is dodgy...it has to plug in a certain level, otherwise the headphones do not work and ya get loud buzzing interfence....but ya cant pucg it in all the way so nice and tight and secure, as it then again does not work....not the best.

And sound?
Such low levels of sound...in radio at least...have not yet tried mp3's

TheBartender,

That sounds a bit dodgy. I haven't read any reports regarding the problems you have mentioned - especially the "plugging in the headphones" part. Does it only do that with the supplied headphones or does it apply to all headphones attached to the N97?

Oh dear...that's so sad. I had hoped Nokia would improve their headset offering in NZ. We bought a couple of Nokia headsets in Europe recently and they're pretty darn good. It's not available in NZ unfortunately!

Only tried the provided headphones so far...dont have any others lying around to test it out properly...my old samsung mobile has its own type of connection, not a 3.5 jack.

Let me point out to people following this...while I am being critical...I am not pointing out all the good points, and there are many...it is a beautifull phone...but for now, Im just testing funcionality and reporting the bugs and downsides.

Currently testing:
-Wifi, connection manager, wifi internet browsing
-GPS, maps, compass
-Ovi, syncing
-Multimedia, formats supported...will transfer movies, music, files of different formats, see how they respond.

Anybody got any questions, want anything tested, let me know, I'll put it through the acid test.

Ovi Maps 3.0
Nokia Messaging
Step Counter
Barcode Reader
Photo Browser

All on Betalabs

Ha just installed that on my E75 too... (sports tracker) planning to test while walking the dog tonight.

As for the headphones I found with the e75 that I thought the plug did not go in all the way and was getting one speaker dropping out. Then realise that it was just quite hard to push in all the way. Once I had the plug going all the way in upto the shoulder my headphones work great. I did not try the Nokia ones though. They did not look worth the effort.
