TheBartender: Cool, got Nokia Sports Tracker working on N97...uploaded info onto web...very nice.

Had a play last night. It is one very cool app. Does look like you are drunk on the map though well at least with the E75. Also the altitude got is self a little confused. We climbed the hill but never came back down Undecided

But over all very cool.

Hey all, seems like there is quite a bit of up and down with peoples experiences and the reviews of the N97, just wondering if anyone would think of the E90 instead? Personally I would prefer it, the keyboard input suits me better than the 'tacked-on' touch screen input Nokia added to the S60 OS, and you still get a good old fasioned keypad to dial numbers (disclaimer - this is coming from someone who has owned a 9210i and now a 9300 for 2 years, so maybe a bit biased....).

Personally I was really looking forward to the N97 but it seems Nokia rushed it to market, and if firmware is being released that often then surely that's not a good sign.

After all, arn't the E90 and N97 VERY similar? Keyboard, check. High-res screen, check. S60 OS, check. Decent camera, check. Yeah, I know N series is supposed to be more 'media/consumer' focused vs. the E series being business focused, but really you could easily use either for both purposes.

MF....

Heres the first, and most important question, for when you catchup with the Nokia rep:

1) Why does the N97, which has 32GB and is designed for multimedia, not be able to play movies of various formats, such as divx, avi, mpg etc?
It is not reasonable to think that a person is going to convert 32GB of movies to another format, just to work on this mobile.

2) When is Nokia going to provide such functionality/codecs?
It is required immediately, otherwise this device is rendered useless for watching movies, without considerable inconvienace.

No word on this. The two people (N Series manager and Communications Manager) didn't even know what DIVX is...

Here is Gizmodo's N97 review.

What I can confirm is that the N97 is Vodafone only, and should cost about $1,700...

Really?
Thats the worse possible answer I think we could get.

Well I will give it a month or two...if there is no solution by then, I may look at selling my N97.

The hardware on the N97 is going to mean that smooth playback of DivX is never going to be possible I'm afraid, it just doesn't have the guts to do it - downsampling will always be required. Would be nice if you could downsample to a format like DivX though...

Just a quick question, has anyone had any problems with the n97 v11 and charging. If the phone dies completely, it seems that I cannot just plug in charger and turn back on- I have to wait a while.

Also, if I plug phone into usb charger and to computer,
the charging light randomly flashes and screen may or may not turn on to say charging..

If it feels like it, the charging light stays on.

Why cant the phone just charge when you plug it in and stop charging when you unplug it!!!

jjnz1: Just a quick question, has anyone had any problems with the n97 v11 and charging.

Still have not recieved the v11 update myself...when and how did you get yours?
- 8#0000#
- SW Update
- Or via NSU

I have tried all methods execpt 'NSU'....I thought that is the same as SW Update in the mobile Applications folder? Is it a updater via the PC or something?

That is an original bug, obviously not fixed in v11....I have that problem now with v10

Yer mate, use the nokia software updater, although, as soon as you connect your phone to the computer using ovi suite, it should come up saying there is an update available.

On another note:
I gave the n97 to my partner last week, but tonight she has given it back and told me she doesnt want it anymore!!! She told me that she wont even use her old N81 (also still has bugs w/ music player) and has dug up an old nokia 3315 -green screen brick!!

She now hates all new Nokia phones!! Good one Nokia!

I think tomorrow I am going to write an e-mail to Nokia NZ about how disapointed we are regarding Nokia smart phones over the last few years. I have owned lots of Nokia phones, and loved to use them, but I am losing faith.

If I buy a new car and something doesnt work, I take it back and tell them to fix it!!
