lyonrouge: dear Nokia team can i use self signed certificates for exchange

I should have been clearer on my request. Older Nokia phones (namely Nokia 6121 Classic) you could not install self-signed certificates on the phone (I've had this confirmed by the engineers in Finland) this was also a problem with VF labled Asus phones, I'm wanting to confirm that this is not a limitation in N8 (please don't tell me to just go buy a certificate as it is not my Exchange server).

The firmware is approved by the operators and supplied by Nokia.

Starplay: Okay... Thanks... Are the VLive bookmark and the Internet Browser separate?

By bookmark do you mean the default page the browser opens, or a link to Live in the menu or on one of the softkeys?

Homepage can be changed in the APN settings, softkeys can be changed in the phone settings. Menu icons can be moved and nested out of sight as can bookmarks within the browser (they should be able to be deleted as well -- I know own own built in ones can -- but I would just have to check on a branded one to be sure).

smgoverno: Can you try the Social client again today and let me know how it goes?

Hi Nick, thank you for chasing that up, Social Networks is now connecting just fine.

Starplay:
So basically... If you buy a phone overseas and then move to NZ your screwed... Great one Nokia!.. I always held more faith in you than that.... In fact I used to think you were the top brand... Not anymore.

I think you will find that a lot of manufactures operate in exactly the same manner, and that is a risk you have to take when you do it.

You've been able to this on most Symbian handsets for the past 18 months 6121 was an exception due to limitations in the software.

so is the N8 in the "most" or "exception" category? has anyone actually done this, first hand, who can confirm/deny that this works?

It was a limitation of older Symbian devices, not new.

I haven't tried it as yet as I don't have an Exchange server that has a self signed cert.

Can you point to a public exchange server that uses a self signed certificate to try?

If I had an N8 I would try, but I don't and was hoping someone on this forum did have an N8 and had tried (and suceeded)

If you don't have a server that others can try, then your quickest option is probably to pop into a store and try it there, then remove the account when you're done.

Public Exchange server is my work server (yes, my work uses self-signed, grrr), so I can't provide an account for someone to try. Digital Modile would not allow me to put my SIM in their test unit and the test unit did not have data (yeah, go figure a test unit who's number 1 marketing aspect is social networking and it doesn't have data).

Charles000: Hi Fred. I haven't experienced any issues at all. As mentioned in that link, Nokia has identified and fixed the issue on the production line. So the new units shouldn't have any issues. However if by some chance you do get a bad one, it will be covered under warranty.

It's a fantastic phone, and I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Some people complain about the UI or the usability, but i have had no concerns go this area. I'm a first time symbian user, and find it much more logical, and easier to use, than iphone or android.

This question is for Nik Rolls, can you please confirm that the units being sold in New Zealand are completely free of the power problems referred to in the link below:

http://www.mobile-computing-news.co.uk/nokia/8536/nokia-n8-power-problems-surface.html

The article says that, "in short, if you were intending on purchasing a Nokia N8, hold off your purchase for a few weeks, until the bad batch has been cleared from market".

Would it be wise for us to wait also, or are all the units sold in New Zealand now OK?

Thanks very much.

Regards
Fred
