lopeti1: Hi Brent, How long is the battery life in the real world with wifi use, playing videos for 2 hours and taking? approx 60 photo's.... would it last all day still?

Good question. While I haven't used my phone in exactly that way I'll outline usage from a day last week to give you an idea

Angry Birds - 2 hours of play
Email - roughly 140 odd across 1 Exchange account and 4 IMAP accounts
Music transmitting via FM - 2 hours
Calls - 35 minutes
Texts - around 30 read/25 answered
Web - around 1.5 hours
Grabaseat app updating every 5 minutes
1 Day app refreshed once
Software Updater checked a couple of times and 1 update downloaded/installed
Battery Reporter running all day

There was a bit more stuff throughout the day, but I still had over 50% battery left. Phone was turned on 7am and that would have been around 10pm

nikrolls: There is a free Panorama app by Nokia on the Ovi Store which uses the same system as on our other camera-centrist phones ... in fact, I find it to be even superior.

The Panorama is great, Also the GPS Own voice app by Nokia from Ovi is very cool

i can now confirm that N8 can process self-signed certificates (do not need to load the certificate like old WM phones)

can anyone recommend a better brwoser for the N8, the mouse wheel does not scrol (it performs an cursor down function)

hmmmm, the mail client provides an icon for calendar invites but there is no "Accept" / "
Decline" options, is this a missing feature or is this a user issue.

Try Opera Mobile, I find it a much better browser on my 5800.  It's free on the Ovi Store.

Not Mobil, that caused it to hang.

Tried Mini, that has the same problem as the suppied browser, such a shame. Ironically throughout the phone the wheel on the mouse works as expected, i.e. scroll.

Having a lot of problems with the text input / virtual keyboard, I suspect it is some form of clash with the Bluetooth keyboard.

Also having a lot of problems with BlueTooth reconnection after screen saver kicks in.

How do I turn on the HDMI output?

Follow-up on RDP application, SymRDP crashes out when you atempt to use the "Trial Registration" very bad start, 2 out of the three applications I have tried (Opera Mobile, Opera Mini and SymRDP) have failed. I may have chosen the wrong framework :-(

Battery life is great. A power user will get a full day's use out of the phone. I have used it intensively on the weekend, for wifi web browsing, playing videos, playing games, GPS navigation, calling, taking photos etc and haven't had to charge it more than once per day.

A light user will get three days. Since Sunday lunchtime (when I last charged it) I have only made a few short calls, several text messages, taken ~30 photos (geotagged), and played a little angry birds. That's 52 hours at the moment, and the battery is still at 47%.

Battery life is acceptable, but I have flattened mine in 8 hours, admittedly some very intensive use.

The Panoramic software from OVI is spectacular!

Note to Win7 64 bit users, there appear to be several difference OVI suite installation packages included on the phone, however, only this one appears to work for Win 7 64 bit.

Computer\Nokia N8-00\Mass memory\Nokia_Ovi_Suite_install_files\Software\NOS2\Nokia_Ovi_Suite_2_2_1_23_ALL

Note: this does not support a proxy server, I'm assuming this is not targetted at business users

cdouble:
lyonrouge: how much interaction with the device (N8) is needed to get this operational, how many menus and clicks does it take to get the access point online?

You run the JoikuSpot application and click a button to enable the wifi hotspot and you can connect via any wifi device. So very few clicks.

Purchased Premium, 4 clicks to start

Press to Start the Application
Press to start WiFi
Press to confirm start
Press to confirm access APN

not ideal, especially as it doesn't save preferences. Can not find anwhere to set a key?

Found the settings (under a separate tab, how odd) so can have a WEP key (that will do) and can set a default APN, so that reduces it to 3 clicks, but doing this, has stopped the application actually working (or at least with Win 7 client)
