Starplay: I think the video calling thing is actually a network issue thing as im trying off vodafone and the others are on 2degrees and Telecom... so maybe ill have to try and find someone on Vodafone to try it to... I remember reading somewhere that video calling is not supported between networks.

You will not be able to do video calling between Vodafone and Telecom, I have tried many times

It comes up with ''removing cancelled'' with a little picture of a stop sign. I just select the app and select uninstall and it starts to think about it and then it comes up with the message.

The other thing that I have noticed is under "web TV" I have no listings at all... And on the thrid homescreen I only have one widget and have no choices of adding any TV chanels as there are none to add.

You shouldn't need to (and probably won't be able to) uninstall the integrated Ovi software from your phone. When you click on Ovi Store for the first time it takes you to the 'clientsplash' page where you can download the latest Ovi Store client by clicking the download link. This means you have the latest version and will be able to access the store optimally.

If you have definitely followed this step (and if following it again doesn't help) then there may be an issue that the Nokia Careline should be able to assist you with (0800 NOKIA1).

With regards to the Web TV: as this is a localised service channels will flow through when they are available and approved in align with copyright and regional availability. The best way to get these is to check if there are any updates, either by entering *#0000# on your phone and pressing Options -> Check for Updates, or updating via PC Suite if you don't have WiFi/don't want to use 3G.

Well... I finally have it working... But what a hastle it involved getting it to work... Nokia suggested that I reset the phone (using the option that deletes all of the data) of which was fine... as when I turned it back on and set-up I got the splash page and installed the new ovi store client.. of which works. But then my computer would not connect to my phone... and after reinstalling ovi suite on my computer it still did not work... So Nokia explained that the computer driver is looking for the phone but as it has been reset it could not identify the phone... Meaning that I had to reformat my entire computer... So after reinstalling windows etc and about 5 years worth of updates (8.5GB of data later) and then downloading all of the software I had on my computer again (appx. 5GB data) + the discs I still had... I can finally connect my N8 to my computer and also access ovi store.

But none-the-less... Im happy it is working... Although it did take about 2 days of FULL work to get it going.

How do you run a SW update via PC? I have run it straight from the phone and updated all of the ones listed but still no chanels... But when I reset the phone I did loose quite a bit of pre-installed stuff... Including the couple of chanels that came with it... Can you get them off the ovi store?... If so its no 'biggie' as ill just get them again.

The only thing that I did loose that I would like back is the preinstalled images that were on the homescreens and also images folder... Is there a way to get them back?

Thanks for all of your help

Oh... I installed the new maps beta but now it doesnt work properly after the reset... if I just try and install it again (i.e download on PC and install to phone) will it run the install even though it is the same version... and then I can download the NZ map again... Thanks

the Ovi Maps 3.06 public beta website has gone offline, I guess I'll just have to wait for the official release

I was trying to go there a few minutes ago and couldn't get on.  The release of 3.06 can't be far away.  Ovi maps is a great application, there is no need to have a nav man etc.

Things I would like to see "fixed" in January:

1. Virtual Keyboard with word completion (like WM7)
2. Widget for SMS (only email at the moment)
3. "to" field to lookup names the same as a phone call (the magic appearing/disappearing letters is particularly insconsistent)
4. SMS "to" to use the Mobile number by default (why on earth would I attempt to send an SMS to an email address?)

Note: MANDATORY fix is calendar item create with invites and the ability to Accept/Decline/Tentative respond to invites.

I may be able to help with most of those.

1. When using the QWERTY keyboard, press the options button (three horizontal lines), press 'Input Options', then 'Activate Prediction'. Then press the options button again, press Input Options, and then Settings. In there turn 'Text correction mode' to 'Show suggestion'. This provides a very familiar auto-correction method which speeds up my typing immensely. Also, try the difference between 'Word auto-completion' on or off ... having it on will show a ghost of the suggested word and you can press the 'right' button to insert it.
2. Have you tried the Notifications widget? It collects missed calls and new messages together in a very efficient fashion.
3. The To box is actually quite smart. For SMS you can just type someone's name and it will search the contacts when you press Send. If there is only one match it will send it to them automatically. For the email box you can type someone's name and then press the 'tick' on the keyboard. You will then see that there is a drop-down suggestions list based on your contacts and your previous email history.
4. I don't have a blanket solution for this one, however you can set Default numbers for each of your contacts. Go into the contact, press 'Options', then 'Defaults'. Here you can set a default number for SMS messages, and it will then never ask you for the number for that contact when messaging them.

Hope those help in some way.

The calendar item fix is definitely coming. Until then you can send a calendar appointment to someone by creating the appointment and then sending it via email. It's not the same as inviting someone but it is a way of getting it to the right people. If they do the same back, you'll be able to save it in your calendar.

1. is a good improvement, thanks
2. I've turned it on, I don't have anything eligable to display, but I'll watch it and see
3. Ah, I was pressing the "To:" button, instead of the field, that works better
4. Is that compatible with contacts stored on an exchange server?

ps. I don't recommend creating the calendar invite at all, when it arrives in Exchange it has some very odd properties set, i.e. the invite list is empty and locked.
