It gives you a 720p media centre to browse your photos and videos, play music, etc (check out the video on the betalabs page). It doesn't let other applications take advantage of the resolution but I would expect (speculation) an API for the 720p resolution to be available before long so that applications can use this when plugged in.

currently the video player and flash player appear to be able to use 720, are they using a direct access method?

Only Nokia software can use it so far, which is why the system software and Nokia applications like Nokia Big Screen can use it. There is definitely a way to get it but no public API. If an API was written it would most likely become part of the Qt API and therefore very user friendly.

nikrolls: Big Screen is fantastic, I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it yet. You can download Nokia Big Sreen from Betalabs here.

I'd definitely stick with the included adaptor cable, unless you can identify for certain that it's this causing the issue as opposed to the HDMI cable being loose/not long enough when plugging into the adaptor. Have you tried a different HDMI cable?

Thanks Nik. As I have always had the HDMI cable and Nokia adaptor connected since day 1, I've never tried any other adaptor/cable. My concern was that the adaptor felt difficult to insert in to the phone itself. I'll try another cable & adaptor and repost. Would it be completely wrong to assume that it could also be a problem with the phone's hardware?

True, I realised that early on too. Both seem no need that final "click". But even once that is done with the HDMI adaptor, I still have the intermittent issues...

Not at all, but I'd always test the accessories first. If you've definitely narrowed it down to the Nokia cable or phone, I'd pop into a Nokia Care Centre (if within reach) or your closest Vodafone store.

Hi team, I just put a 32GB MicroSD in mine and when I viewed photos a "refreshing media" dialogue was presented, I left it over night but the dialoguewas still there, so I power cycled it and now it fine, just to let you know.

Out of frustration I have changed to a HTC Trophy (Windows Phone 7) so I can get my Exchange email. Not sure what the problem is with N8, I'm sure it is something to do with Calendar invites causing it to stop synchronising, but there is no diagnostics (or even an error reported) for me to work it out.

I think I've cracked what is upsetting it, I don't think I likes not being the only client accessing the mailbox, I'm currently accessing from multiple clients concurrently (Outlook 2010, Outlook 2003, iOS, WM7, WM6.1 & WM5) and when the updates aren't from the N8 it ignores them, if I perform a send it forces the N8 to perform a true synchronise.

What kind of updates are you referring to? I've successfully had my account syncing with up to five devices plus PC and everything stays in sync.

I process invites on the Trophy or Outlook, leaving the in box empty, then i return to the N8 and select synchronise (to clear the invites I could not process) and nothing updates, however if I send an email from the N8 this gets the synchronization working again. OVI does not see my N8 anymore. I've installed a fresh copy on another machine and it doesn't see it either so I think a factory reset is in order. Not so urgent now that I have the trophy for work tomorrow
