Are there any members with inside knowledge who know if SMS sync (ActiveSync 14.0 feature) is comming to N8?

Been using it on Android (work phone) and it is possible the single most valueable function I've used this year.

Just recieved the upgrade from OVI Suite to Nokia Suite 3.2.100 (Win 7). Now has content syncing, which by default synchronises to the same location as Zune.

Still no integration between contact and messages, i.e. for those using an Exchange Server back-end, local syncing is not available, and without this messages can not retrieve contact details.

OVI store is still a link and not integrated (Maps remains integrated however).

and still no reappication of previous purchases.

nikrolls: I would seriously recommend getting your device serviced at our Care Centre. If you're close enough to Newmarket Auckland to drop it in then you can find it at 435 Khyber Pass Road, otherwise your closest Vodafone store will be able to send it in for you.

If I get Vodafone to process this, will I pay an additional fee? Is this a ROM wipe process, i.e. erase my current data (it doesn't matter if it is, I'm just curious), and will it be retained after a remote wipe?

Probably best to follow the beta page here so you can see what's on the way, and make sure you're not waiting for features that are not planned to be implemented.

You will most likely lose all user data if the device goes in for servicing. You will be warned of this before handing it over.

Will the "servicing" be lost after a remote wipe? I remote wipe about once a month so I want to be sure this will be a permanent solution.

The Beta page is behind the current version so does not indicate what is coming, but vaguely references what went.

NZtechfreak: Any N8 owners in Auckland care to let me try my 64GB micro SDXC card in their phone?

@NZtechfreak:  Did you ever get to test your 64GB card in an N8 and if so what was the result?

After Nokia Call Centre hell I drove to the New Market "care" centre, who in turn sent me to a basement phone repairer in Newton, who was unable flash my parallel import. So my N8 remains unable to connect to the OVI Store.

That'll learn me for buy a Parallel. If there are any Vodafone people out there, why can't we have these in Black in NZ?

Do you know what they would flash it to? Voda NZ ROM?

If you download Phoenix and Navifirm you can do this process yourself. With Navifirm you just select your handset and it will come up with all available product codes/region variants. You just select the firmware variant you want and then flash the files with Phoenix.

If you're not comfortable doing this yourself, I'm sure you can request a specific firmware variant for a repair centre to flash for you, as I imagine they will go through the same process. Most places generally will just match the product code under the battery (or in your case I think it's under the USB cover), but I see no reason why they couldn't flash a different variant if requested.

Keep in mind though that if you will not be able to downgrade the software. Unlike Android and iOS (with shsh blobs) , once you've upgraded there is pretty much no way to downgrade.

Thanks, I'll start researching this in the coming days.

The Phone Repairers that Nokia Care Centre sent me too said they could only do this for NZ phones (mine is French), so I reasoned that if professionals could not do it, then a mere mortal such as myself, would have no chance.

Watch this space for a reinvigorated N8 or a brick.

As far as I am aware Symbian^3 prohibits changing the phone's product code. That means if, using Phoenix as has been suggested, you do manage to load different firmware it reverts back to the firmware for the original product code whenever you update via Nokia software updating (e.g. Nokia Suite, OTA).

It's not so much that they can not do it, rather they will not do it. Most manufacturers will only repair handsets bought from within the country.

I bought my N8 from NZ and has been flashed to MEA (Middle East), there is always a risk in flashing your phone to a different region (also watch out for any updates, dont install them)

Good luck
