Ahaa, thanks for that Brent, although doesn't really affect me.. except when I go to phone info in Nokia Suite it lets me know I have no Warranty. You are probably unable to comment on this, but I imagine some of that testing by VFNZ involves whether any firmware changes are going to affect their revenue.. and I have noticed certain model's operator settings make it a lot harder to get data via wifi than network. Just out of interest, I think Telecom were selling the N8 as well.. is Belle available to them? And what would happen if you put for example a 2Degrees sim in a VFNZ branded handset.. would that make any difference to update capability? And FYI.. I have been an exclusive (personal phone anyway) Nokia user since my first Brick on Telecom, I moved to BellSouth when they opened here, I remember going in to Pitt St in about '98 to have my firmware upgraded and was one of the first to be able to txt.. I remember the first number flashing up on my screen when caller ID introduced .. nearly fell over in Ponsonby!! Downloaded a free Mission Impossible ringtone from Germany in 2000 or so.. Love the brand and product, not sure how I feel about the Windows Mobile tie up, tempted to go with N9 but love the 12MP camera on N8 and don't want to get with an obsolete platform. Any advice? Cheers

Hi, TNZ never sold the N8 :) Firmware updates are irrespective of which provider you are currently using. So a VFNZ bought N8 will get the update when VFNZ approves it, even if you're using the N8 on 2 Degrees or TNZ etc.

When do we get Belle?... If its much longer I don't think that my N8 will still be alive!... She's only just managing to get by each day as they come... One of the biggest mistakes buying an N8...

It's dead Jim. N8 is no longer recharging via either connection. I can't justify another service centre visit, I'm just spending good money after bad. Maybe if the Lumia gets the N8 camera in the future I'll give it another go, but certainly not another Symbian.

ps. I have no love the WP7 software release cycle however, which took over a year for my Trophy to receive tethering.

Therein lies the irony, nothing. I'm a strict end-user. I don't hack, jail break, flash or beta test (except when requested by the vendor support). My suspicion, which I can't prove, is that my handset has a power supply fault, either connections or the battery itself, which is causing firmware corruption (symptom). The outages are unpredictable and not user repeatable. The answer from Nokia service centre is "corrupted firmware" each time (see previous posts). I can understand Nokia service centre viewpoint, it's a parallel import and as such, not their problem. They address the symptom each time but whatever the cause, it is not addressed.

It's a shame anyone is having issues with N8.. my only one has been a full memory but have sorted that by clearing out some files, regularly backing up msgs etc to Nokia Suite then deleting from phone. I also use RamBlow, which keeps it all ticking along. She's a great machine, and I don't anticipate changing it for a while to come.

I manage 7 handsets, the only reason I persevered with the N8 was the camera, and that alone.

Actually of late, my camera seems to fail to open. Reboot it and it fixes it, but it was happening enough for me to see that I've had my phone exactly a year and a week. I did my first restore this week too as the memory was constantly saying it was full. And I seem to avoid apps like the plague. The only negative to having done this was that quick office seems to have disappeared. However I'm sure Belle is just round the corner anyway....

NB. What is the physical limit to a file you download from email? I simply have gmail on my phone and was sent a video that's about 16mb. However the phone says it is too large to download. Is that a phone thing or an operator thing?

Do you use Nokia Suite? You should have 3.4.27 Beta. It gives you options for memory management. I would be bloody p****d off with Vodafone for holding back Belle, and I suspect it is a revenue reason. Save your messages to PC, delete cache from your browser, make sure all downloads go to mass memory, get a Ram blower or something.. move panorama images out of phone memory.. in saying that I can't get much more than 20mB free in phone memory, but it seems to be enough. Good luck
