Been looking at getting a new amp but prices here seem steep (shock horror). I saw the Marantz SR5006 for sale on Pricespy for $1695

http://www.avworld.co.nz/products-page/home-theatre-amplifiers/marantz-sr5006-receiver/

But then saw it on Amazon for NZ$829 + $25 shipping lol.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B005455PWO/ref=dp_olp_new_map?ie=UTF8&condition=new

So exactly half the price.... I would be saving myself $850 dollars (custom duties aside) which is considerable.....

Apart from having a US plug and warranty issues (would I be covered here?) is this something you would consider?

Anyone else done this? Must admit it's tempting

Only one problem -

Shipping: This item can only be shipped to the 48 contiguous states. We regret it cannot be shipped to APO/FPO, Hawaii, Alaska, or Puerto Rico

You'l need to do some work to figure out the real shipping cost.

That is a bit if an issue... will do some digging

Im going to US in a month so could potentially get one sent to my hotel and then post it back here myself?

Warranty not likely to be honoured by Marantz NZ though is it?

It's also only got a 110V power supply (as it often the case for home theatre gear), not 110-240V - so you'll need a step-up transformer.

Ok well thats a deal breaker. I assumed it might have a 110/240v switch like my older Pioneer amp does...

Usually left of the US models to stop this exact thing happening. And new amps dont tend to just have a big-ass transformer in them that you can re-configure the primaries to make it work, with multiple power supplies in them for lower standby use etc.
