Hi Guys,
My Bravia LCD has a really annoying issue where certain frequencies cause the TV to buzz and rattle; to fix this I've decided to purchase a Soundbar (my living-room is too oddly shaped to handle a home theatre system).
I require a bar that can act as an IR-Repeater, has inbuilt sub-woofers or a wireless sub, and (most importantly) can have basic functions such as volume control and mute operated by the TV remote.

The Yamaha YAS-101 looks perfect for what I want, it can learn volume up and down from the TV remote but I believe it cannot learn mute (not mentioned in specifications and I found a user review somewhere complaining that that function was not available).
This would be a deal breaker for me as I use mute an awful lot and having to hunt for another remote would be agonizing every time I wanted some peace and quiet.

Does anyone know if muting my Bravia with the TV remote will also mute the optical output (and thus silence the sound bar)? Or does mute only work on the TV's built in speakers and I'll have to use the soundbar's remote?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The i-manual is pretty useless in this area so I've just had a play with my Bravia (32ex720) audio setup.
No, the mute doesn't mute the optical out. In fact the optical out seems to stay live no matter what I do in the setup menu.
You will have to use the Soundbar's remote.
It will probably mute external audio if you use the headphone socket though but then you won't get 5.1 sound out.

Seems a bit silly that they can map volume up/down but not mute. Someone wasn't thinking.

A Harmony remote would sort it.

Seconding the Harmony remote concept.
