Dunnersfella: There is a downside to Jaxson's approach, as the MySky sound will no longer be able to be played in zone 2... meaning there's no opportunity to listen to Juice outside, or the cricket commentary for that matter!

Good point!  yeah, pros and cons all round really.

If the TV is being fed an HDMI signal, will it output audio from that via it's rca outputs?
If so you could use this to feed the zone 2?  I'm doubtful...

Actually, also can the MySky output digital coax/optical AND analogue RCA audio at the same time?
If so you could still connect the MySky to an analogue input for zone 2 duties.

But we're talking situations where a CD is being played for party duties inside, and cricket/sport is on the TV inside with commentary outside via zone 2?  Are the guys sitting on the deck watching the TV through the window past the ladies dancing?  Actually that sounds pretty good, assuming the BBQ is going and there is beer....

Cheers, and yes, there's always beers and a BBQ going on at his place :-)

Sounding possible to keep watching sky while listening to music on main speakers, so I think he will be happy enough with the setup.

Hoping to show him a few amps this weekend and see what he prefers for ease of use.

I always bring this up, but ideally you want a universal remote or similar to tie it all together. Newer receivers have smartphone app integration which is pretty cool. Receiver remotes are notoriously complex given 9/10 you just want source and volume control.

If possible for the budget you'd want something airplay integrated too so you can stream your music direct to the receiver and adjust volumes etc from a phone/ipad etc.

It's worth noting that apps that control receivers (Yamaha, Pioneer, Onkyo etc) are notoriously unreliable.

When they're hard wired, they seem to be mint.
When a receiver is attached via a wireless adaptor, it's painful'ish.
Having said that, the apps have become far more stable, it's just that some are better than others.
