Well, on my way to Timaru our car radio crapped out 10 mins after leaving home (with 467kms to go, late on a Friday night)
Very dull trip.
On saturday morning in Timaru I was cruising around Repco and the likes trying to find a semi decent radio to put in so I don't go insane on the long drive back on Monday.
Decided to have a "quick look" at HN to see if they had much (and I didn't have my wife in tow, so even better)
2 hrs later I left with a Panasonic in car DVD player and a Wharfdale Diamond10 speaker and sub package. :)
I had been looking at them for a while and managed to do a deal.
My wife just laughed when I told her what I'd brought. No doubt this means I'll pay for it later!

Happy now? :)
I now have the enjoyable part of waiting until the freight company delivers these. Tongue out
Will post up some pics once they arrive (and I get the cable from Regs!)

Congrats, enjoy!

I personally still think the Wharfedales are the best bang for buck option out there. And not only that they are pretty darn good too!

I also liked the sound of the Klipsch, but I coudn't stretch the extra $1800 over what I got the Wharfies for. And i know my wife likes the look of the wharfdales, which is a very important consideration!

Are they here yet?

EDIT: And I got 20 Nakamichi Gold Plated Speaker Banana Plug Connectors from ebay for $11.89USD shipped!

Now I need a new entertainment unit. it has always been on the backburner until we had the HTPC, receiver and speakers we wanted.

(sorry for links, but I only get a red X when I try to embed)

Sweet as, insert jealous reader here!

Yes, I'm all for the wharfedales, best quality for your $ in my humble opinion.
When the kids are older I'll be revisiting that for sure!

Well done on the Wharfedales. I have very fond memories. I have since subsequently "upgraded", but honestly I don't think I've gained anything. They're great speakers. Except for the subwoofers.

Don't buy them :-)

Cheers
Kerry

What's supposedly "wrong" with their subs? Came with one, and not having had a stand-alone sub before it seems quite impressive for a small 10" job.

Got everything wired up tonight with the cable from Regs (cheers!) and the banana plugs that came from China via Ebay. Had it running all day on the radio at about 50% volume - they sound different already.

Will get some more plugs and "bi-amp" the fronts and let you all know what I think when they've been run in.

I got the Wharfdale Vardus package from L V Martin, they're my first home theatre speakers. They cost something like $1300 less a 20% discount on sale for two large mains, centre, rear, and sub. I'm impressed. Everything sounds clear, there's plenty of bass, and nothing sounds out of place.

I can only compare them with the $500 speaker package in my office and a pretty wide range of high end headphones (like $1000 headphones), but they stack up well compared with those. I'd say they're very good speakers and they're excellent value, and i'll probably avoid listening to more expensive speakers so I don't get the upgrade bug!

Nice - definitely time to get a new entertainment cabinet though - that centre speaker is crying out for better placement! Plus the TV looks a little big for its current home...

The old centre sat atop the HTPC and amp - I would need to alter (read: chop up) the unit again to make the new centre fit there.

End plan will be to wall mount the TV and have a lowline rimu unit made to take the amp, HTPC, sub and Bluray collection. I will then use the usb port on the sub to power some cooling fans
