Hi guys

I just purchased a projector from usa a week ago and it got sent by ups.

Now just before, i got called by ups requesting an importer code..

I have no clue what that is. They said they will email me a form, but the havent.

What is a importer code? Where do i get one? What happens next? Will there be a delay in me getting the goods? Please help guys

An importer code is assigned to you by Customs. You request one by filling the form the courier services send you, then inform this code to them for release of goods.

Your goods won't be released until you have this code and provide it to them. You most likely will have to pay GST (otherwise they wouldn't ask for the code).

If you haven't got a form, either call them and ask or just call customs.

Yea you need the form if you need to pay duties or GST on the thing you import. If they haven't sent you the form I have a copy here:

If you are not a company then you don't fill it. You check Individual and contine from there. It's pretty self explanatory.

You should just send this to UPS filled out with as many details are as applicable to you as an individual and they will handle it for you with customs.

Don't be worried or lost.  This is so customs can bill you for GST and/or duty.

I imported a projector from Japan via DHL and followed the same process.

Phone the New Zealand UPS  agent on...

UPS - Fliway (NZ) Ltd.
66 Westney Road, Mangere
Tel.: 0800-742-587 (toll free)
Fax: 64-9-275-4394
Monday - Friday: 08:00 - 17:30

Give them your UPS tracking number and tell them you don't have an importer client code.

UPS will direct you on what you need to do (DHL emailed me the client code application and I faxed it back).  The client code was sorted in just a few hours and didn't really delay my order at all.

This is all standard procedure, UPS do it all the time.

I'd be more worried about whether your projector works on 240v :)
