Hi all,
I would really like to hear back from owners of this specific tv, as I am about to get one (on Thursday - Jan 5th, so a quick reply will be hugely appreciated).

Reading through the manual, it looks like it is a pretty smart TV, and I am planning to use it as a Tv and also to play the "recorded tv" files off my HTPC. This is the main reason to go for this model (network connection). I really need to know if this really works, or is just a marketing gimmick full of hidden traps, maybe the feature  does not work outside Samsung lab? Unfortunately there are no reviews in NZ, just a forum in South Africa (I think), where everybody was absolutely ecstatic about the picture quality (they were mainly gamers).

I grabbed that set as part of the Boxing day sales for use as a PC monitor with a bit of freeview thrown in. Excellent as a monitor once the correct mode is selected. I havent used the wireless capabilities as you need to purchase the wireless dongle or physically connect it to your modem/router. A friend has the 51D550 and using the wireless dongle effortlessly streams music and movies from his PC to it. Works great. I assume the 32D550 would be the same.

I do not intend to get the $200 wireless dongle, as I will use a wired connection to my existing  router. However, the HTPC is connected wireless to network, this will have to be wired for better transfer rate when accessing the content from the TV.


just a quick question (if possible) to your friend: the manuall is not very clear regarding   what video formats can be played. There is a comprehensive list, but extensions "ts" and "tp" are grouped together and the main purpose for connecting this tv to the LAN is to access the "recorded TV" from my HTPC running MediaPortal. These recordings are "ts" format, I assume encoded H.264; There might be a possibility the tv cannot play ts h.264, but only ts mpeg-2; Also, TV might be able to play tp files in h.264, but my Media Portal does not record in that format...

Also, it says there that fast forward or skipping is not supported??

If you have a HTPC why would you try to play content off network shares via the TV's media player rather than play content in the HTPC which is outputted to the TV via HDMI?

The HTPC is probably always going to have better media type support than the TV's inbuilt player. 

What are you using for your HTPC eg: Windows Media Center, Media Portal, XBMC ?

Also if this is case where the new Samsung is a 2nd tv and not next to your HTPC you could simply use a DLNA server to stream media to the TV from the HTPC.
