Hi
I have an old Bose lifestyle music center with the acoustimass module and 5 Jewell cube speakers. Is it possible to use the speakers with a non Bose Reciever? I have searched the web using google and have found conflicting information.
Cheers
Richard

You probably can provided the new reciever has RCA type connectors. You'll need to make sure your cabling connects OK. I'm not sure you should expect much from the speakers. As I recall Bose has its DSP designed to make marketing sound impressive and make crappy speakers sound as good as possible. You might find the noise from the speakers is seriosly flawed. Usual advice - try before you buy.

Those tiny speakers are heavily equalised.

The equaliser lies within the receiver.

Used without the matching receiver/amp/bass module and they will sound awful.

So would recommend using only with a receiver with a mic setup capability to try and recreate some of this equalisation.

What ohm rating are those little cubes?  Would want to check that they are 6ohm or higher for use with a standard receiver.

+1 it has been fairly well documented that Bose do some fairly heavy equalisation to try and flatten out the frequency range. I can not see it working well hooking them up to any other receiver.

They sound fine as long as you like listening to Classical\Opera and not a lot else.

I've found Logitech 5.1 systems (computer speakers) that give them a good run for their money at around 1/10 of the price.

"You are" = "You're" - Not "Your".  "They are" = "They're" - Not "Their" or "There".  You probably mean "lose" not "loose".  There's no such word as "Alot".

i know you'd like to reuse them - but i cant help but thinking a pair of decent bookshelfs would be much, much nicer...eg. wharfedale 9.1s for $330 like another poster got from pm in auckland

I have a pair of show boxes here you can have for $220. Cheaper than the Wharfedale and will sound better than the bose

thanks for all your input.  I managed to hook up the Bose reciever to SkyHD, the PS3, etc and they sound OK.  Not as good as my Onkyo reciever and Wharfdale Diamond 10.1 but will do for now.

surely you jest !

Surprised

they mangle tonality and the damage they wreak on the human voice is criminal.

a 60's/70s radiogram sounds better than anything bose ever made or ever will make.
