Hi,

I would like a blu-ray player which is multi region AND supports DLNA. Looking at the choice in NZ at the moment there is only the Toshiba BDX3200KY or the Veon and both do not support DLNA. I want the DLNA to replace the playstation/ps3mediaserver so I dont have to keep it on too long as it is old.

I know lots have asked and I have read most entries.

So is it possible
a) to get a modified machine in NZ preferable
b) to wait for a model which will suppport DLNA and an option for region A
c) import from abroad, ideas where would be useful

Thanks all

Get a Marantz player multi-regioned by the importer (it'll cost around $250 from memory).
It will NOT be a cheap option though, what sort of budget are you looking at?

Well I am not thinking about HTPC, I would be more useful and cut down the bandwidth on my hard pressed server. But it would also be more expensive. I know linux so I am sure this would solve the region issues. It is pretty hard to find a mult region BD drives who ship to NZ too.

I have heard a PS3 is multi region but have not tested it yet!

The PS3 is multi region for games only unfortunately, even other regions DVD's don't work.

- Oppo BDP-103 - I see it for $850 + $250 for zone free hardmod.

- HTPC + Arcsoft TMT + Blu-ray Region Tray Tool (although it seems you're hard pressed to get 100% perfect 23.976 fps playback from a PC),

- Panasonic DMP-BDT 220 etc. with firmwareinfo.com custom firmware allowing you to switch between zones at will.

If you don't want to spend a fortune, and/or they don't need to be an all-in-one same unit:

Option One
- Toshiba 1200ky as a multi-zone blu ray player (circa $100 if you look); plus
- WD Live as the DLNA media player (again circa $100 in sales if you look).

Option Two
- Forget about a Zone A player (if you have few zone A disks);
- WD Live as the DLNA media player; and
- Use your PC to rip any zone A disks, put them on a USB hard drive, and connect to the WD live.
