Can someone help me with my setup. This is my first receiver and am not sure of the setup I have.

So I have my TIVO plugged into the HDMI1 and an HDMI out to the TV. The HDMI out to the TV has ARC enabled so if I want to record 2 channels on the TIVO I can watch a third on the TV's freeveiw receiver.

All goes well and good while everything is powered up. I can switch between the TIVO and TV with 1 press of a button, the receiver will always switch over to either not a problem. The problem is when I boot it all up from standby, I want the receiver to start up on the TIVO, and it does for about 5 seconds until the HDMI control from the TV tells it to turn onto the TV. So I end up with the TIVO output on the TV and no sound because it has switched to the TV's ARC input.

Hope that is clear as mud. All I am looking to do is have the TV turn on, stay on the TIVO input, the receiver to stay on the TIVO input and still have the HDMI control to switch everything over with 1 press of a button.

Any takers?

Okay, so there's an HDMI issue at play, and I have met one guy who had massive issues with his older Marantz receiver / Tivo combo. He fixed it... but that involved putting his Tivo in the tip.
Have you tried plugging the HDMI cable from the Tivo into HDMI 2? HDMI 1 is designated off the bat as BD/DVD on Yamaha's, so there may be some weird issue with using the 1st port.

Next up, I'd try another HDMI cable.
If your cable is marginal somewhere along the chain (Tivo to receiver or receiver to TV) - then the HDMI cables HDCP handshake may be throwing up a few odd results. Try begging, borrowing, stealing or buying some new cables.

Finally, and what I'd do to begin with...
Give up on ARC all together.
It is often flukey, it will only ever provide you with 2-channel stereo - and for the price of a $20 2-meter optical toslink cable, you'd wonder why you'd ever consider ARC.

Cheers, I'll give that a crack.
