Hi There,

I have a car stereo setup in the bedroom, as I find all the typical stereos systems we have useless.

Anyway.

I can pull in ZM which is on 89.8 which I believe is from Ruru, with the car antenna it's weak, but it's still audible. However I can't get anything else.

I had More FM on 92.2 Yesterday morning, but I lost it. I can't get it again.

I understand it's not as strong as Te Aroha, but it should still be doable.

I got most of the stations booming in the other day, when we were driving home from Piha.

So I understand it should be doable.

What can I do to recieve this stations a little better?

Thanks

Other than a beam antenna on a rotator there's little you can do. Reception of DX stations is purely dependent on atmospheric conditions. I have been working amateur stations in Australia on 50mhz from North Shore all through January but for the last 10 days or so - nothing. The frequencies are now dead. Best time to listen for Oz stations (50 - 100mhz) is in Summer when there is a cold front lying from Oz to NZ.

ZM on 89.8 is quite different from all the other waikato stations. I know before they massivly cut its northern output it was stronger than the skytower in many pockets of south east auckland, now your car radio wont even find it most of the times when driving over the hill by the BP on the southern, it used to just pop over from 91 to 89.8 without any noticeable drop in audio. Not sure exactly when it changed over since for the last 3-4 years when I have been driving down there I have been using the phone for music. Last time I drove without it was in the new car before I had changed the stereo so had to use FM, Ugh...

As far as I know all Waikato FM stations transmit from Ruru Hill with the exception of Classic Hits 98.6 which transmits from Mt Te Aroha.

Wikipedia says ZM 89.8 used to transmit from Mt Te Aroha but moved it so they could do a local version in Tauranga
