Hi

My wife's 2 and a half year old Asus Eee PC 1005P was having what seemed like battery troubles recently, but also problems with its power connector (stops charging etc). Now it's not powering at all, and when the power connector is connected the light on the power box starts flashing, but lights up normally when not connected. Unfortunately I don't have a device I can test the power supply with otherwise. This happens whether or not the battery is plugged in.

She insisted I pull it apart which I did with the assistance of this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GG4DKgPFAA8

However the DC power jack appears to be secure in place, no burn marks etc and no amount of wiggling/pressure changes the flashing light on the power box when connected

I plan to take the mobo into surplustronics to see if they have the power jack part, and also to see if they have a power supply I can test with and also test our own power supply if they have something compatible, but can't get there til the end of the week.

Questions:

1. does anyone know where I could obtain a replacment DC power jack? - ie the bit on the mobo, needs to be desoldered then new one resoldered

2. can the eee pc power up without a battery installed? (never tried before this happened..)

Thanks for any help!

Hey
No takers :(
I have indeed isolated the problem to the DC power jack, using a multimeter and continuity testing.
... now just to find the part.
Surplustronics couldn't help and a laptop repair place across the way suggested I chuck the whole thing out
Nobody has ideas where I can get the part?
I'll start searching the 'net
Thanks if you can help..
