Fellow Geekzoners,

After spending lot of time and thought on which Lenovo Thinkpad to grab, I finally bought Lenovo B580. I know, B580 is not Thinkpad.

My reasoning is this: I always dreamed of  owning MacBook Pro 13" Retina one but unfortunately it is beyond my affordability at this point in time. So I almost gave up on my dream and decided to settle for Lenovo, the only PC brand I love. So started contemplating Thinkpads and decided to shell upto 1500 NZD on a good Thinkpad. I asked many questions on Geekzone forums as well. Understandably, that is not an easy question as there are a range of deciding factors not all of them are objective. But then I took a U turn once I stumbled upon PB Tech Black Friday sale on 16 November 2012. I came across
http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=NBKLEN4377201B and it looked attractive for what I pay.

So instead of shelling 1500 NZD for a machine I don't entirely like, I decided to shell just 600 NZD on a cheapo which does the job for the short term and add the rest to my MacBook Pro fund. So my dream is still alive now. I can live with B580 for 1 or 2 years. Meanwhile I expect SSD ( and other advanced technology currently responsible for high prices) will become mainstream and hence less expensive driving the price of my dream, south.

Until then I am happy with B 580 which isn't less impressive either.

This looks to be good value for money; however these days I more rely on tablet to do most of the things I used to do with laptops: email; web browsing; office documents; music/movies; social network and online messaging...

That's why though Apple Macbook Pro still appeals to me, I somehow feel less and less inclined to get one; for over $3000 (if you want 256Gb of SSD) for a laptop, I'll make better use of the money elsewhere.

You are right in hoping that SSD hard drives would become mainstream in the next few years; then all I need is a tablet which becomes an ultrabook with a base/keybood. I think this will become mainstream as well :)
