Looking at tablets with win 8 pro and win rt. I want to simplyfy the use of my phone (nokia 920 ) with my tablet /laptop which at present is a samsung 10.1 and apple Bluetooth keyboard.
So endgame is a tablet /keyboard combo in windows 8 or windows rt

personally i would recommend full windows 8 and a tablet with an detachable keyboard. that way you can use it as a full laptop as well.

when I got the original iPad i found using a tablet wasnt all that good, and used my laptop more, but did use tablet on occasion, so a hybrid is a perfect solution IMO.

not that you cant get win8 rt with a keyboard, but the OS is limited and if you do decide to use it as a laptop, you may be limited in what apps you can run and what you can do with it.

also comes down to price, if win 8 rt is 60% the cost of win 8 pro, probably go for win 8 rt.  but if its just a few hundred, win 8 pro.

Go with Windows 8. HP Envy X2, Acer W510, Asus Vivobooks are great tablets. New generation Atom CPU, great battery life and x86 compatibility.

Do you require win8 Pro or would plain jane win8 suffice?

Give the Samsungs a look in also, I bought a XE500 win8 hybrid laptop in the boxing day sales and love it, my laptop has now become the family desktop as i never use it anymore!

IMHO winRT should only be a consideration if budget will not extend to a win8 device, the added functionality of full blown windows 8 is well worth the small increase in cost

What Nokia device do you have? Many hotspot apps are ad-hoc WiFi connection, which Android can't connect to.

true, theres 3 versions of windows 8.  i believe the op meant between win8 RT and full win8 (which comes in win 8 pro and win 8 standard/home/whatever they call it)

windows 8 standard would be fine for most users.

Acer Iconia W5 Series W510-27602G06iss Hybrid Tablet, Atom Z2760 1.8 GHz, 10.1", 64GB Flash, 2GB RAM, Win 8 32-bit, White/Black, with Keyboard Docking Station

Samsung ATIV Smart PC Hybrid Tablet, Atom Z2760 1.8 GHz, 11.6", 64GB Flash, 2GB RAM, Win 8 32-bit, Blue, with Keyboard Docking Station

Hewlett-Packard Envy x2 11-G001tu Hybrid Tablet, Atom Z2760 1.8 GHz, 11.6", 64GB Flash, 2GB RAM, Win 8 32-bit, Silver/Black, with Keyboard Docking Station

So it looks like it will be one of these three

+1 vote for the Samsung, can't comment if it is better or worse than the other two options but in its own right its a great unit, real world battery life is very good, plus having the S Pen it can be very useful when you are using it as a tablet but in desktop mode to hit the icons accurately on toolbars etc, plus the digitizer means you will be the envy of all your Draw Something components lol!

One aspect which i am not sure if it is win8 or samsung functionality is if you connect it up via external keyboard/mouse/monitor as a desktop you can use the screen as a touchpad for gestures etc without having the screen lit up, its a small thing I know but handy

Acer W510 is $789 at Noel Leeming and Bond n Bond. On top of that there seems to be a further $100 redemption offer from Acer till 17th Feb. You can prob try get a better cash deal from either of the retailers on top of that. You can use the $100 redemption offer credit to buy the acer docking keyboard/battery combo.

RT is not just an edition/flavor of Windows. It is a substantially different thing to the extent that your Windows programs are unlikely to run on Windows RT.

unlikely is an understatement :)

if you need desktop Win32 apps then Windows RT is not for you, just like Android or iOS is not for you either

Definitely the full version of windows. I don't see the downside of the full version apart from possibly using more storage.
