In case you didn't see this in the news today:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2012/oct/22/amazon-wipes-customers-kindle-deletes-account

Makes me happy I went for a Sony reader and promptly remove all the DRM off all ePubs I buy before I back them up.

Check out my Mobile Cell Site Google Maps KML Files in my blog.

There's a bit more information on Boingboing:

http://boingboing.net/2012/10/22/kindle-user-claims-amazon-dele.html

She's had her account reinstated, for what it's worth.

Great Scott!

The fact that Amazon can do that is just terrifying.

Technology writer Cory Doctorow suggested "the policy violation that Linn stands accused of is using a friend's UK address to buy Amazon UK English Kindle books from Norway". Under Amazon's rules, this type of action is barred, as the publisher seeks to control what content is read in which territory of the world.

Wow, all this bad press over regional pricing. Honestly when will companies learn that in this day and age it's a bad idea.

There is a big difference though. If I order a torch from Amazon i can keep it, it's mine. Same with any other physical stuff I order from Amazon. Even books. But try to explain my mum why the electronic book she paid for isnt hers.

Amazon is seen a an online shop, only techies are aware of DRM and its restrictions. With the popularity of eBooks more normal customers will expirience the negative site of it and will start complaining. DRM and none ownership is nothing natural and needs to stop.
