I am heading to US in a couple of weeks, only for a couple of days and would like to get an ereader. The Nook with light really appeals but I'm concerned that I won't be able to download ebooks for it, or at least not easily. I think the Kindle is more NZ user friendly but I'm not sure where to get it close to where we are staying which is Santa Monica. Any advice?

Buy the kindle using the Geekzone link http://gkz1.co/KindleNZ have it sent here. Will be here long before you go (took 2 business days for our last one). Just make sure on the order page change the currency to USD as Amazon use must worse exchange rates to what your bank will. Edit: basically you can get it using the method above for the same as while you are over there. I do not think you can buy it from any shops over there you would still need to have it shipped. Just realised it's actually only 10 days till I go, leave on the 14th, feel really nervous about ordering it & it not turning up in time. I see that they do sell them in some store, Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Staples, but don't think there's anything close to where we are staying. I love the look of the nook with backlighting but it seems difficult to purchase books.

I would suggest you to buy a kindle over the internet too I ordered one last year with a US mail forward service, that takes a week because at that time Amazon won't ship directly to NZ. a month or so back I ordered a Kindle touch from Amazon using the link here on geekzone and I had it in my hands 3 days later. Cant complain about that HTPC AMD A4-5300 cpu, Gigabyte ga2fa75m-d3h motherboard, , 4GB DDR3 ram, onboard graphics. Hauppuage HVR 3300 tuner, Antec 2480B case, Windows 7 home premium 64 bit using media center

Ordered another last Friday, 4th kindle now, it was shipped same day. The thingie online said it would take 8 - 14 days but I have never found that to be the case, it would appear this one will be here sometime this week.

If you look though some of the threads of people ordering kindles from Amazon and they all say that shipping is very fast. As I said I have ordered two now and both arrived in a matter of a few days. Well under a week. Once they ship it is two days from leaving the US to arriving with you. I live in Wellington and you get it the same day it arrives in NZ (Auckland). I have the Nook Simple Touch and just imported the new one with the Glowlight (used NZ credit card and USa delivery address and worked fine). I sideload books (Calibre) so store not an issue for me. Do have a look in store while in the USA as I find the screen a little less dark and text a little more light with the glowlight off. Thats despite all reviews saying should be the same. I had a Kindle keyboard but never looked back after moving to Nook. If you are going to use a store Kindle is the better choice. If you want the light the Nook with Glowlight is very very nice to use and read in bed with. Horses for courses I would suggest.

I got all the way through the purchasing of a Kindle last night but with the current exchange rate it came out to about $220 so I decided against it. I think I'll wait to see what I can get over there as I managed to get my USD at a good rate of 85 cents in the dollar. Thanks for all your advice everyone.
