Just spoke to Telecom as their new 120GB Total Home Broadband would be ideal for our house.

I don't want a 12 month contract or a Modem so I was querying why the $99 connection fee when I already have phone a broadband at my existing property.

Good job I phoned as

1. The 120GB package isn't available until May so my first month would be 60GB
2. The $99 fee is fixed in stone, even though its just a flick of a button.
3. There is an additional $63 fee if I want my phone line connected for voice calls.

So I'd be looking at a total of $162 to switch to Telecom just to save $26 a month over my existing Orcon plan.

Can anyone actually find on Telecom's site where they mention the additional $63 (inc GST) fee as I can't find it anywhere on their website.

I'd really prefer not to have the $199 break fee that they apply on their 12 month contracts and I already have my own equipment.

Is the 12 month contract really such a big deal? If it waives the $99 connection fee, and you sell the supplied router on trademe for $80, that's already most of the $199 termination fee paid for. And if it's a good deal you'll most likely keep with it for at least 12 months.

Until recently Telecom was the only ISP to charge the connection fee. Another reason I will never sign up with them... and yet they are the countrys top ISP? I've never understood that...

I've never paid an ISP connection fee and I don't intend to in the future!

If you're saving $26/month, you'll make up for the $150 in six months and be cruising from there
