Topic # 101712 7-May-2012 12:44 Send private message

Hi,

Since about 11:00am today we have not at work  been able to receive or send emails to the outside world via our exchange server.

When I run up a stand alone mail client and sent a mail directly I get  (from Eudora)

"There has been an error in transmitting your mail. DATA and then the SMTP server  (smtp.xtra.co.nz"  said 452 insufficient system storage.

Can i take that to mean that the Telecom mailserver has run out of space??

Regards,

Old3eyes

I am having the same issue with one of our sites on Telecom. Mail can get in, but not out.

Why not just run your own SMTP server? Xtra often gets blackmailed anyway.....

Hmm still down - anyone got a quick workaround - other than setting up your own server?

Ive had 2 people within 2 minutes ring with this problem. Changing clients over to send.xtra seems to have resolved it.

UnhappyTelecom SMTP services down 6 hours and counting
I am still  having issues with Telecoms SMTP.xtra.co.nz I am in New Plymouth Central City .

I rang telecom NZ this morning and as on hold for 1 hour (57 minutes to be exact ) ( shocking for a business) Then after 30 minutes with a help tech ( um if you could call them that) They tell me they are going to send me to a higher level tech whom tells me after about 15 minutes that they have SMTP issues.   send.xtra.co.nz is not working either for us

Ahhhhhhh why did I ever go back to telecom after 5 years away from them??????? I need my head read.

So  1 hour and 45 minutes to get that information. Then all emails sent today have not arrived at the clients so i find out after making a few phone calls.

So a warning it seems that if you sent email between 10 - 11 am with Telecom. NZ that that mail could well be lost.

Now Still no out going mail service and almost a full business day with out it. Losses are mounting now staff cannot communicate with clients.
I need to set up our own SMTP service

I would guess that e-mail would be queued, it wouldn't simply vanish into space.

Why couldn't it? I have seen email lost before.

Now coming up 8 hours later and when I spoke to the tech that had no information on what had happened to that email that appeared sent.   Nor were prepared to comment.

You can be sure once we have our own STMP service working soon , we will be resending EVERY EMAIL that was send from our offices today.

If you have got a web host, you can use their SMTP server along with your domain, so you can bypass your ISPs servers altogether. Not unless your web host doesn't provide SMTP access, which some still don't.
