You can't flash the European RUU just through root, you need s-off as well. Root gives you ability to install CWM and then flash custom roms

Yeap, aware of that having installed custom roms on my previous two HTC android phones. Was just saving a few keystrokes, which I have now used

. Don't want to void HTC's warranty while I'm still shaking down the hardware. Have been wondering about the legality under NZ consumer law for a software change to void a hardware warranty.

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

It's going to be a pain if something goes wrong with ours I bet, already had the user modification line thrown in my face when trying to contact HTC regarding that OTA update bug I posted in the TT forums. We'll likely have to go through Richard when the Telecom retail assistant wonders why we don't have official packaging

Yeah definitely, I think if something goes wrong with mine, I'll just buy a blue Galaxy S3, to match the white one I have here

Glad I'm not the only impatient person here. This is probably the thing I miss the most from my old SGS 1. Apparently HTC not locking phones anymore was a lie, but I could have figured that out before I bought my One X I guess. HTCDev not an option either as that apparently just instantly kills every single part of your warranty if you read those stories on xda... Awh well :)

I see Noel Leeming are doing 20% off Vodafone handsets this weekend, so could have had one of those for the same price as I paid AND have it on 1.28.

I flicked an email to telecom asking when they are gonna release 1.28 firmware and this is what i got from them after a couple of days.

Our Senior Testing & Product Manager responds as follows

"HTC One X. New software is currently in lab under test. Cannot provide a date as it depends on if we pick-up any issues. History tells us that there would probably need a second round of testing therefore adding an additional 3-4 weeks to the approval time."

Bugger that, ended up getting a second Galaxy SIII in white. In the Noels sale for $840, before I found out Warehouse Stationery were doing them for $780

With it's current v1.26 patch, I see nothing good about the phone, apart from it's screen.

It's getting eclipsed in almost every single way by the SIII

It's getting eclipsed in almost every single way by the SIII

I would say that is a bit dramatic. Yes, the massive delay from Telecom in releasing the updated firmware is a pain but even it in current state I would hardly say it is "eclipsed in almost every single way by the SIII".

The One X seems to hold its ground very well apart from battery life in the 1.26 build. The UI on the SIII is, in my opinion, horrid, it feels cheap, the screen is not as good, I dont think the picture quality from the camera is as good, the reception seems to be less than the One X. Testing the two head to head on Friday often the SIII was 5 - 7db less than the One X. I live in a fringe coverage area and the One X is solid, where the SIII was not.

SIII has all the hype and is the current "in" gadget at the moment so people sway towards that.

Once Telecom release the update it will make the phone perfect. It almost is.

My frustration is that other carriers all around the world have managed to release 2 updates since 1.26 (with a 3rd in the works apparently) and Telecom have not even managed to get the first out.

Yes, I can unlock the boot loader and load a custom ROM, or we can take the "need to get it right, there must be a delay for a reason" speech from a telco (I know this one, I work for a telco), but at the end of the day it is a bit slack.

I highly doubt it, they wouldn't tell us they were "testing" the firmware for weeks (I tweeted them a few weeks ago and they were testing too) if they could just blame HTC, they would probably immediately point the finger and tell us to ask HTC.

I contacted HTC. They said they were waiting for Telecom.
If they found a problem in the initial testing then fine, continue, but let us know. Otherwise it just makes them look slow and ridiculous compared to their competitors. I like this phone, starting to go off the carrier.......

Sorry should have been a bit clearer, on v1.26 the only benefits I can see over the GS3 are:
- Low light photos are better
- Better screen, sharper, but not as low contrast
- The design/form factor is great
- The anti stain backing
- Lack of touchwiz, although touchwiz nature is the best implementation of it

The negatives I can see are:
- Video is very chopping at 1080p, could be v1.26 rearing it's head
- Battery life on the One-X is dreadful, have trouble lasting a full day
- Lagging/slowdown on some programs, and when returning to the home screen
- Unable to run most games without getting clipping/framing, especially GTA3
- Music quality isn't really up to standard, especially with the so-called beats audio.
- The camera sticks out too far
- Rooting/HTC Dev'ing it voids the warranty

If 1.29 is as said, then yeah it'll be an excellent phone again.
Apart from the camera sticking out, have had to put mine in a case to protect it!
