TELECOM STREAMLINES HOME PHONE & BROADBAND PLANS FOR THE FUTURE

The country’s largest telecommunications provider, Telecom, has updated its extensive range of plans for residential home phone and broadband customers as New Zealand inches towards better, faster broadband with fibre.

The announcement coincides with a recent report from Statistics New Zealand which details how internet consumption is increasing year-on-year.

Chris Thompson, Telecom Retail - Home says, “Kiwi broadband subscribers are consuming an average of 7GB data more a month than this time last year, and people who have signed-up for data caps of 50GB per month or more increased by almost 800 percent in a year.

“The launch of our new home phone and broadband plans mark a massive shift in the way we are supporting our customers in seamlessly preparing for new, life-changing communications technology.”

The new plans are also designed as the first step towards readying Kiwis for Telecom’s impending Ultra Fast Broadband (UFB) products launching in March 2013, which will have a significant impact on the future speed and scale of access to online information and connectivity.

As a special salute to the new plans, for a limited time, Telecom has increased the data allowance for subscribers on the 5GB plan to 30GB of data per month. At only $75, users will enjoy greater capacity to use online products and services. Existing customers who have already signed-up will be upgraded for free until the end of 2013.

Mr Thompson says Kiwis should be keeping an eye out for other great plans as the company ‘gets back in the game’ on aligning products with customer expectations on price.

It is a pity they have retired the home phone plans - as a new customer I would have taken the "Talk It Up NZ & Overseas" add-on...

Changed my plan couple of weeks ago with Telecom. $99 and getting a phone line + 150GB data. Very happy with service and performance.

"Talk It Up NZ & Overseas" is a retired plan. Now the choice is either Downunder or Overseas.

I don't know why they are pushing Data at the expense of the National Calling option of Total Home (now restricted to weekends)?

Is it to promote Skype?

The old 'talkitup national and overseas' was $45.
the new 'Talkitup overseas' is $30.
you can buy an calling plan that has unlimited national for an extra $15.
(it's called 'everyday national calling' and definitely ISN'T restricted to weekends)

ergo, you can buy talkitup overseas and national for $45 same as it used to be, it;s just done in a slightly different way..

so, the old 'Total Home' had 40GB data (well originally it had 10GB but got upgraded over time) and everyday national calling for $105.

You can now get 50GB with everyday national calling for $99.  saves you $6 per month and gets you more data.

They can make the "Create your own package" ordering process simpler for new customers by adding a 3rd option "International calling" listing the 2 "Talk It Up" plans...

Except it seems that new customers can't order via the site; it tells me to call 123.

I'll ask the product folks and see if they want to either include a link to the international calling options or modify the form to include the 3rd option.  It's a good idea :)

Behodar: Except it seems that new customers can't order via the site; it tells me to call 123.


You can also do it via the Telecom.co.nz page using the online chat option too I believe.

Edit: Also, if you're interested there are some additional plans that have just come out that Telecom employees can offer to family & friends with a few extra broadband and weekend national/mobile calling offers.  Plus a mobile offer too if you sign up to a Smart phone plan.  Geekzoners feel free to PM me or email me pl at telecom dot co dot nz with your contact details and I can get someone to contact you about these offers.

I assume that Caller ID, Call waiting and voicemail are extra on top of these plans????

Yes... Voice Mail (Call Minder), Call Waiting & Caller ID (Caller Display) are all add-on services, and you can get the Smart Pack for $10 which is all three if you've got the package: http://www.telecom.co.nz/phoneline/phoneline/existingcustomers/addphoneservices/

I've just asked the web guy about that being an option 4 in that create your own package page... Since IMHO it would make sense to have that all there.

Just a FYI this thread has been forward through to the product managers who maintain the web experience on the Telecom.co.nz web site so I would hope they are reading it and the feedback given here.

Also feel free to email me if you've got broadband (or want broadband) with Telecom, as the employee discount to friends and family (and I consider geekzoners friends) are pretty sweet as above ;)
