My daughter's cell phone was swiped recently It has a handy secuirty feature that sends a message to predefined numbers when a new sim card is inserted. So now I have the phone number ( on 027) of the person that grabbed I've sent messages suggesting they return it. I've tried calling the number, and leaving voicemail All to no avail. Before involving the police and blacklisting the IMEI I was wondering if there is a way to do a reverse directory lookup (official or otherwise) to get the address associated with the number?

Telecom won't give out personal information about another customer without approval from the customer due to the privacy act. Best plan is to go to the police and report it, and either get the IMEI blocked or if the police are involved the phone could be tracked if the request is initiated via the Police. I work for Telecom, but as always my views are my own.

hahaha how's that for scary, you steal a phone and just when you think you're safe by taking out the old sim and putting a new one in, the previous owners magically get your number and start abusing you! hope you get the phone back!

Can't believe you didn't call police immediately... Anyhoo, onwards and upwards: Call the police. Call Telecom. Search the 027 number in Facebook - you are likely to get their name. Friend them. Find out where they work. Find out their moms name. Text the number, offering a $100 reward (I have done this, it worked, people are dumb). Text the number from a different phone. Use txt speak. Pretend to be a mate of a mate. Offer $20 petrol money to get picked up and taken to town. + many more tricks if you think hard enough. I have Cerberos installed on my phone. Change of SIM or not, can GPS track the phone, take photos with the cameras, get automatic photos of people who use the phone... very cool. P.S. I also believe that blacklisting an IMEI is a very good way to encourage a thief/receiver to throw the device away, thereby eliminating the prospect of getting it back. Having the thief's mobile number is a great start (hardest part really) of getting it back. Call the police, and ask Telecom for help, but tell them you don't want it blacklisted yet!
