I know I've posted this on my blog as well, but I think it would be good to have a solid thread going in parallel to talk about it.

We've recently decided to with Telecom for Big Time in the next two months! I know that we're a bit late to the Big Time party - we wanted to decide whether it would be a good choice for our family considering that we're not extreme users, but do go over the small 20GB cap we have (late's better than never!)

While it may seem pointless to make a survey now since we're certain to go, I felt it would also be good for the community too. Results will be posted here on December 1 as well if you don't subscribe to any other form of content from me, so just hit the "Watch this topic" button below if you want to keep track.

So if you're a past or present subscriber to Big Time - we want your feedback!

Also a few things related to our change:

  • While I know standalone broadband plan offers don't usually apply to Total Home (or TH Lite/Starter), does Telecom still give at least a free modem for those signing up to Total Home? It would be stupid if they didn't (e.g. newcomer to broadband, no equipment, with Total Home's broadband...) - but would like to know what options there are, since the Total Home page doesn't really go in-depth.

  • How is the changeover like for Vodafone Red network -> Telecom Wholesale? How long does it usually take for that to happen?

Done.

One thing I found was the performance questions were a bit too general, you probably need to go into more detail there ie: differentiate international there's a big difference between AU from US for example and local do you consider content from tvnz on demand aka city link under local or international... because of peering (lack of) it's actually international and slow etc.

While I know about the non-peering of Telecom (and TelstraClear) - I didn't want to have a boring one asking where and what since that would have a really segregated result if not everyone is able to answer it.

Also - it's about "perception" as well.

It's not a formal study, so I don't think this survey is too bad. All we want is a general idea of the "mood" that people have with Big Time.

Here's a quick graph of what people said about their experiences with particular activities on Big Time and another Telecom Broadband plan:

(EDIT: Changed graph axis for clarity and correctness)

You can grab a copy of the spreadsheets:

  • xlsx (2007 - 2010 - made with 2010 beta, so any issues in 2007, please do tell me)

  • .xls (97 - 2003, some things made be screwed up or missing compared to xlsx)

  • Google Docs (missing graphs and one sheet)

Graphs from the spreadsheets to be uploaded very soon.

If you think there's something that you would like to see compared that hasn't been compared in my spreadsheet, just leave a comment, and I'll see what I can do. :)
