Can somebody who's on Telecom clarify the usage costs for these data plans? On the 500MB plan data is charged at 10c per MB up to the $30 and the next 200MB is free. How is data charged on these lower plans? My understanding is it's the cost split - ie $6 for 20MB so all data to $6 is charged at 30c per MB and then 50c per MB over this. Likewise for the 240MB plan it's 7.5c per MB up to $18 and then 50c per MB over this. *Need help configuring your Linksys ATA or IP Phones for New Zealand? Check my blog post

I'm sure it's 50c per MB until you hit the dollar value of your plan then the remaining MB's are free eg on the $6 add on you pay $6 for 12mb and the remaining 8 free That seems to be how it works for me anyway the 500mb add on is better value at 10c per mb

Cheers Yes the 500MB plan is certainly the best value - you'd be crazy not to be on that plan if you're on Telecom, even if you only used 100MB per month! *Need help configuring your Linksys ATA or IP Phones for New Zealand? Check my blog post

sbiddle: Cheers Yes the 500MB plan is certainly the best value - you'd be crazy not to be on that plan if you're on Telecom, even if you only used 100MB per month! On prepay yes, but on contract you get charged the full amount no matter what so when on contract you've got to choose the best add on for your needs (and 500mb isn't available on contract)

Yep, no 500MB on account. The 500MB plans works well if you use less than 180MB or more than 240MB (well just over). nzbnw

I "solved" my data problem by having two phones. One has a "voice" (on acccount) SIM in it and the other has a Vodafone "Broadband Pro" SIM with 3GB / $80 / month....then another 3G for $10 more. So for $90/month I get 6GB. But the voice / txt charges are basic menu.....no breaks. So one phone does voice / txt and the other does data...and the combination saves me $600 / month for the whole package as it would cost on ONE phone. If you're not curious, your brain is already dying...if not dead. I can't add the 3GB to my plan / SIM. I should add that my "voice" SIM is an HTC Magic "Smart 80" plan....and that's why they won't add the add-on. I tried to do that and they wouldn't let me. I could only get a 2nd SIM with the data on it. I asked in the store and online and via 777 (who are largely clueless)....but got same answer from all sources. That's why I'm in THIS forum looking at how Telecom data works. :-) Telecom don't have an android phone (yet?)...and there isn't another phone that comes close to function set the android phones provide....though very few people actually know that....(but I do - first hand). If you're not curious, your brain is already dying...if not dead. Telecom also offer 2GB and 4GB plans ($59.95 and $79.95 respectively) which can be added on to XT postpaid plans. However a $10/month discount if offered for Xtra customers (must be on the same account) and currently double your data (i.e. 4G = $59.95, 8GB = $79.95), based on 24month terms on a seperate data card SIM connection. You could so a SIM only on these plans too, and just use a smart phone with a voice rate of $0.89/minute. nzbnw
