I have a new TP-Link TD-W8960N router/modem. I have had terrible trouble gaming on U.S based servers ever since the ADSL2+ Cabinet came online. Impossible with the lag and latency. Anyhow...I was wanting help reading my line stats and what they mean. Are these stats good or bad? Any help from techies much appreciated !

Mode: ADSL_2plus
Traffic Type: ATM
Status: Up
Link Power State: L0

Line Coding(Trellis): Downstream On Upstream On
SNR Margin (0.1 dB):     121                     155
Attenuation (0.1 dB):     110                       50
Output Power (0.1 dBm):189                     124
Attainable Rate (Kbps):  21000                  945

These results seem very different to others here I have seen.
SNR Margin (dB): 121 - 155
Attenuation (dB): 110  - 50
Output Power (dBm): 189 - 124
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 21000 - 945
Rate (Kbps): 16472 - 9450

Hi your figures all seem good, some modems like the TPLink list the noise margins, attenuation etc in 0.1dB not dB, therefore your attenuation is 11dB, so 16.4Mb/s sync rate is on the mark (ie correct) for your line, so I doubt the connection to thecabinet is an issue.

Who is your ISP?

You can reduce some latency by having interleaving turned off, however from what you describe the issue is more extensive than chopping 30-40mS off you ping times.

Next step is to try some speed and ping tests to both NZ servers and US ones, go to

www.speedtest.net..., there you should test to both the Auckland, and Napier server, then also perform the ping test. After that try the same to LA, tell us how you get on.

Cheers
Cyril
